Audain Art Museum öppnade 2016 och grundades av Vancouver byggare och filantrop Michael Audain och hans fru Yoshiko Karasawa. Den LEED-certifierade strukturen på 56 000 kvadratmeter ligger i Whistler, British Columbia, och designades av det prisbelönta arkitektfirmaet Patkau Architects. Museets permanenta samling visar konst från British Columbia från slutet av 1700-talet för att presentera. Förankring av samlingen är James Harts The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), den mest betydande samtida snidade cedar Dance Screen i världen. Andra höjdpunkter inkluderar en viktig samling av 1900-talets första nationers masker och verk av några av Kanadas mest berömda artister, inklusive Emily Carr, EJ Hughes och de internationellt kända fotokonceptualisterna Jeff Wall och Stan Douglas. This was a wonderful unexpected surprise this gem of a museum has some fantastic art from Matisse, Picasso and local artist Emily Carr. I particularly liked seeing the photography too, particularly Ansel Adams. The entire museum including its stunning architecture is a must see.

With my 16-year-old daughter we spent 2.5 hours in the very beautiful architectural special museum that specializes in West Coast artists, first nation, painting, photography. Overall very diverse! Shop offers a wide range. No cafe.
Great art gallery / museum. On the smaller side, but a great chance to see beautiful Canadian works of art over this and the last Century and also masks and sculpture by first world people.
The Audain Museum was one of the highlights of our Whistler trip. Well worth the cost of admission and time required.
In stark contrast to Whistlers sporting fame, the gallery offers a contrast of pace and mood. A divers collection with something for everyone.
This was a beautiful gallery to visit. The art was all different, and well displayed, and it felt like each room had a surprise in it. Its right in the centre of Whistler so it was a good way to escape the heat and smoke.
Just the exterior itself is an architectural marvel and masterpiece. The exhibits inside are also just as exquisite. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Whistler especially during the summer season as the weather is warm and inviting. Love that this museum showcases the works of prominent Canadian artists!
