Byggd för att ersätta en annan marknad, revs 1876, öppnades den 1930. Interiören totalrenoverades efter renoveringsarbeten på anläggningarna som utfördes mellan 2010 och 2011.
Projektet för en modern befästning för att försvara denna sträcka av den portugisiska kusten går tillbaka till 1300-talet, med byggandet av Fort Santiago do Outão, avsett att kontrollera flodens inlopp.
Naturparken Arrábida är ett biogenetiskt reservat som ligger på halvön Setúbal och täcker kommunerna Palmela, Setúbal och Sesimbra, med den högsta höjden i Pico do Formosinho (501 m höjd), i distriktet Setúbal, i Portugal. Den sträcker sig 35 kilometer.
Azeitão bildas av de gamla socknarna Azeitão (São Lourenço och São Simão), som delar namnet "de Azeitão", tack vare de omfattande olivlundar som under arabisk tid dominerade dessa delar.

After several days of exploring on our own, this was a perfect way to see some new areas while giving our legs a rest. Our guide, Diogo, truly went above and beyond to make this a memorable day for us (including a wine/art tour and finding a handmade tile shop on our way!). He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area, and even tied in the history of the places we visited on the tour with the places we’d already seen to really understand how it all connected! Truly a wonderful day - our only regret was that we booked this near the end of our vacation and couldn’t have him take us on another excursion.

Had a fantastic time on this tour, my parents were super impressed with how knowledgeable our guide was with the area and all the sites were incredible. Would definitely recommend if you have limited time in Setubal to hit the main spots!

This is my second time booking the Arrábida: Setúbal tour with Outing Portugal. This was my cousin's first trip to Portugal, and Diogo planned a wonderful tour of Setúbal for us. Diogo Sampaio gave us the best tour of Setubal 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves to learn the history of on area or have convenient door to door tours of an unfamiliar area. We will be back for another tour very soon!
