The tour guide was knowledgeable and fun to listen to about the city. He was fun to converse with while touring the city.
Our guide was knowledgeable about the local history and especially the lesser known stories of local heroes and villains during the deportation of Jewish people during the war. What was so surprising was the number of Netherlanders who conspired with the Nazi regime and betrayed fellow citizens for an unknown gain. I always heard about the brave underground Resistance fighters, men snd women, in the NL. I had little knowledge of the number of their fellow citizens who were willing to support a diabolical regime. Our guide knew so many interesting facts to explain the nuanced history of the occupation of the NL. He thanked us with a big smile for liberating the NL. We are Canadians. I must say that our guide assumed that we had no religious affiliation, and he did not hide his personal preference for a religious affiliation. In my opinion a guide should keep their personal bias hidden and stick to facts in the information provided. They will less likely offend because honestly as a visitor to the NL, I would prefer to feel welcomed and not judged. There is definitely a fine line to be walked here as a guide who must welcome people from every corner of this world.
Luke was an exceptional tour guide - knowledgable, engaging and with the gift of being able to tell the story of this time in a captivating way.
Luke did a great job bringing in some levity to a very dark situation. Very informative - and not only about Anne Frank but others too.
Terrific free walking tour highlighting the history of Amsterdam during WWII and Anne Frank. Our tour guide was Craig, who was a delight, a spunky young historian who is from Amsterdam and Haarlem. Well paced tour with many interesting sites discussed. We are a married couple in our 30s amongst a diverse group of 10-15 ppl (singles, family, friends, old, young). Of course, remember to tip your tour guide after walking tours!
Very informative. The audio guide was easy to use and very educational. Highly recommend to friends and family.
It was shocking to think these few were able to stay hidden as long as they did. The horror of the Nazi hatred really hits home and makes me so sick to think of such evil. The terrible way JEWS and others that protested were treated is enough to make my stomach turn and my heart ache.
Krijn was a very informative and enthusiastic guide. Much was learned. A sad narrative but learned a lot.
This is truly one of the best tours to take if you are interested in the historical true story aspect of what happened during this period of time for the people affected. It is very emotional and moving tour, it may not be pleasant to hear, but necessary to know and feel. Our tour guide was Luuk and he was excellent, he brought the historical stories and experiences to life by the way he shared them. I highly recommend.
We signed up for the tour through the aviator website. The tour was less than $4.00 a person. When we arrived at the tour meeting location we found out it was a free tour. We were glad we had signed up ahead of time. It was worth the $4.00.
