Batugrottorna reser sig 11 kilometer norr om Kuala Lumpur och är en av Malaysias heligaste hinduiska pilgrimsplatser. Denna halvdagstur kombinerar grottorna med två berömda malaysiska kulturinstitutioner för en rik, skiktad upplevelse. Börja på en malaysisk Batik stuga, där den sekelgamla konsten av vax-och-färga tyg, invävd i bröllopsklänningar, officiella uniformer och daglig klänning, kommer till liv. Ett besök på Royal Selangor Tennfabrik följer, där hantverkare formar världsberömda metallarbeten för hand. Vid Batugrottorna meddelar den 42 meter höga förgyllda Murugan-statyn att du anländer innan den 272 meter höga trappan klättrar in i en kalkstenskatedral som formats under 400 miljoner år, kantad av målningar, statyer och hinduiska helgedomar. Alla inträdes- och donationsavgifter ingår, tillsammans med returtransfer för gäster som bor i Kuala Lumpur city. En halvdag som kombinerar tro, konst och hantverk till en sömlös upplevelse från centrala Kuala Lumpur.

Beläget cirka 11 kilometer norr om Kuala Lumpur längs Sungai Batu, lämnar den bekväma resan den moderna staden levande snabbt åt sidan. Batik finns fortfarande i officiella kläduniformer, afton- och bröllopsklänningar och bärs som dagliga kläder av många malaysier. Det kulturella värdet av batikmålat tyg överskuggas ofta av dess konstnärliga intryck men är ändå en djupt rotad del av det bevarade hantverket.
Att gå upp på avstånd och signalera ingången till Batu-grottorna är den förgyllda Murugan-statyn, en 42 meter hög väktare och etsad i skivböckerna som världens högsta Lord Murugan-staty. Vägen upp till en av de heligaste hinduiska pilgrimsfärdplatsen är att ta en 272-steg som räknar klättring uppåt i grottans heliga centrum. Ursprunget till Batu-grottorna går tillbaka till cirka 400 miljoner år sedan när naturliga element ristade ut de tre olika grottorna. Var och en av grottorna har olika målningar, statyer och religiösa helgedomar för froma hinduer. We took the afternoon tour. It was really nice. There are over 200 steps to climb at the Batu Caves so if you are not used to so much exertion, don't climb the steps all at once. Take breaks. From Batu Caves we went to a Batik emporium. It's was good. If you're thinking of getting something exclusive for your family and friends, you can give this a shot. The last stop was Royal Selangor. Our guide Ravi was very informative and great. Our overall tour guide was also good. Told us a lot about the history of Malaysia and KL.

we were fortunate [or dare I say it smart] that as it was a public holiday we decided to get there quite early and missed the horrendous traffic queues we spotted trying to get there as we were leaving. And even then it was already packed in there. It took us 20 mins from the KL centre but I would suggest allowing double that to even an hour if you suspect you've missed that early time slot. On the walk to the caves there were lots of stalls with strings of flowers some small some huge. It was explained to us by our driver these are offerings. There was no hard sell by the stall holders and the one I purchased was inexpensive ...you can have a bit of choice for $10 or under. The statue was awe inspiring ... having seen so many pictures it was hard to register she was actually right there... I was there! The 272 steps are a challenge due to a/ the number of them b/the amount of people on there, walking at different paces, taking selfies [in not a stop on a stairs kinda girl and wanting to reach the wider sections before resting [I mean sight seeing haha] and avoiding the monkeys was another consideration.... despite the signs people feeding them had made them very curious. At calmer places I did turn and enjoy the view, taking some brilliant pictures of KL with the statue framing the shot but what was the bonus I hadn't expected was how beautiful the caves were in places... lots of pictures were taken. I followed with care and respect the local people and made my offering... it was a moving experience. the walk down was physically easier but as a tall person I was aware the stone edging was very low so you felt that a hand rail would have been saver. but I loved the experience... and as someone ticking a bucket list being there, doing all the steps and savouring the experience provided a great sense of achievement for me. points to note * get there as early as you can - we would have been there 2 hours before had we known. miss the traffic, and then the crowds which would enhance the atmosphere. *there is no charge to enter the main cave. An additional cave was available for a charge which we chose to avoid as the lines were long by then and we were very happy with the experience we had enjoyed. * the steps are fine, 272 were broken into sections but there are less places to hold on than someone unstable would prefer [pace yourself and have a hand to hold] * keep your bags small, zipped, and close. The monkeys [and were were warned some unscrupulous sorts] would like to help you of your belongings. * bring a camera * be prepared to be awe inspired... it is stunningly beautiful
<p>Over all experiences from the tour was nice even we didn't find it easy to be picked up because my friend and I was waiting at KL sentral station not hotel since we don't have one. It was raining after we arrived the cave but it was fun though, the monkey there also jump to hug me but I run..Lol. Anyway, our private 3 hours tour price for two persons in one sedan included one driver as a tour guide seem a bit high, to me It's more reasonable for 50 instead of 65.</p>
<p>good half day tour. the tour guide was very good in explaining each spot.<br/> totally worth the money and time!<br/> the only thing to point out is the condition of the bus, which had some dirty spots here and there..</p>
<p>Picked up from hotel at 1345, returned at 1900. Only 40 minutes of that time were spent at Batu Caves. What was not mentioned when booking this trip or on the itinerary, was that it also included a 30 minute stop at a pewter factory and 15 minutes at a batik printing unit. Majority of time was spent sitting in KL traffic and waiting for people to get back to the coach after each stop. Forget the trip - just get the train and do it yourself, probably a lot less hassle.</p>
<p>It is what it is! Royal Selangor is an interesting trip as you see the pewter process and the factory. The batik is just a shop trying to sell at over-inflated prices - but hey! Batu caves itself is an interesting place - lots of steps - but perfectly do-able and you get to enjoy the monkeys on the way up and back down. The cave itself is not so exciting if you have seen others - but again, is of interest. For me, the trip was well organised and executed - I have no complaints at all. But - it is not a trip I would ever do again - simply because there was nothing of enough interest to bring me back!</p>

<p>Great trip, good value. Long enough at each stop but not too long. Royal Selangor pewter works was very interesting. Batu Caves very different, beware the monkeys! 272 steps a very good work out. Not really interested in the silk shop stop.</p>
<p>It is nice to have someone driving you and giving information during the trip. It is worth letting people know in advance there are dress requirements for accessing the caves e.g. length of skirt/trousers, as it is hard to access changing rooms on the spot. The statue is impressive.</p>
