I had a stopover in Beijing on my way from Shanghai back to Europe, and although I would have loved to stay longer, I decided to make the most of the one full day I had because I had never visited Beijing before. While searching online, I came across this Viator tour with many excellent reviews, especially mentioning the guide, Lucy. It immediately felt like exactly what I was looking for, so I booked it. Within a very short time, Lucy sent me a warm welcome message with detailed instructions about our meeting point in front of the Forbidden City. She even explained the easiest way to get there and kindly asked me to send a photo of myself so she could recognize me quickly. It was a thoughtful touch that made everything smooth and stress-free from the very beginning. Our group consisted of only five people, which was perfect. One traveler was from Australia and three were from Indonesia, and everyone was friendly, making the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable throughout the day. Lucy paid attention to every single detail. She constantly checked whether anyone needed anything and made sure everyone felt comfortable. Her knowledge of Chinese history and the places we visited was impressive, but what made the biggest difference was the way she shared it. During our visit to the Forbidden City and later during the drive to the Great Wall, she explained the history, culture and architecture in a fascinating and easy-to-understand way. She spoke excellent English, communicated clearly, and created a real sense of confidence and security throughout the entire tour. The transportation was comfortable with plenty of space, and during much of the journey she continued telling us interesting stories and historical background. At the same time, she had a great sense of balance. She knew exactly when people wanted to listen and when they simply wanted to relax or even take a short nap after the early morning start. We never felt overloaded with information, but we also never felt that anything important was missing. That balance is a rare quality. Lucy also has a wonderful sense of humor, lots of positive energy, and genuine passion for her work. She never appeared tired or routine, even though she must have done this tour many times. Instead, she came across as enthusiastic, fresh and fully engaged. She was simply a pleasure to listen to and to talk with. The wireless headset system was another excellent feature. Even in the huge crowds of the Forbidden City, we could hear her perfectly whether we were close to her or several meters away. She also paid attention to everyone’s individual preferences. Whether someone needed a restroom break, wanted to taste Chinese tea, or had another request, she always tried to accommodate it. Everything was handled calmly and professionally. One small example says a lot about her attitude. Early that morning I accidentally forgot to pack my umbrella, even though I had planned to bring it because rain had been forecast for the entire day. Lucy immediately arranged for the driver to lend me one. In the end, it hardly rained at all, but the umbrella turned out to be incredibly useful while climbing the Great Wall because it was strong enough to use almost like a walking stick. As a funny bonus, it matched the colors of my outfit almost perfectly, so it actually looked like a fashion accessory rather than just an umbrella! Everything about this tour was well organized. There were no misunderstandings, no unnecessary delays, and no wasted time. The lunch buffet was excellent, and our whole group sat together, making it another pleasant part of the experience. At every stop, Lucy made sure we always knew exactly where and when to meet again, so nobody ever felt lost or uncertain. What impressed me most was Lucy’s emotional intelligence. She has a remarkable ability to sense what people need without anyone having to ask. In my opinion, this is something that cannot really be taught—it is a natural talent. I travel a lot and have joined many guided tours around the world, so I have experienced guides ranging from excellent to very disappointing. Lucy is genuinely among the very best I have ever had. If you are looking for a professionally organized, informative, relaxing and enjoyable day exploring the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in a small group, I can recommend this tour without any hesitation. It was one of the highlights of my trip to China.

The tour company is called “Lilys Tours”, but our tour guides name was Maggie. She was extremely communicative before and during the trip. The tour van picked us up right on the time that was informed, and the trip itself was exactly what we were looking for! You definitely need to bring a portable fan and good walking shoes because you should prepare yourself for a very long day! However, Maggie was so friendly knowledgeable. They provide provided waters, food, and all information that you would need to know. I definitely recommend this tour!!

One of the most amazing experiences of my life. I booked for the instructor guide tour of Tianamen Square, The forbidden city and the great wall. Everything about the tour was top notch. I received a message a day before the tour to make sure I was ready. On the day of the tour, I was picked from my hotel. The instructor, Bobo, was amazing. Team Bobo is the best! We stopped for lunch and I enjoyed it. I recommend this!
