Alesund Shore Excursion Den ultimata sightseeingturen

We had booked an excursion with a French-speaking guide, and upon our arrival for the start of the excursion, we were informed that the French-speaking guide was sick. Which was a lie, because all the travelers who did this excursion with us were English-speaking. It is therefore very dishonest to offer excursions in French knowing that this is not what they provide. It is very disappointing from Viator.

The tour guide Danny was excellent, delivering commentary in English & Italian. The lighthouse stop seemed to be an excuse to support the onsite bakery/restaurant. The walk to the lighthouse and the stairs to the top once inside are not intended for less mobile. A documentary played on a loop but with no indication how far into the script it was at any point. Few visitors seemed to know it was even available. By the time I saw some of the history of the Lighthouse and was motivated to attempt the stairs, it was time to depart. The Sunnmore Museum was just walking through period cabins. Not my first trip to Norway nor to a similar "museum", so it was disappointing to me. Narration by museum employees or volunteers would enhanced the experience. Did have an opportunity to chat with 2 volunteers (students) in one cabin. He was roasting coffee beans on a wood-burning stove. She was making sweet treats using a rolling pin to thin potato bread dough, bake it, and create small squares filled with butter and sugar. Quite tasty! Had to wait 10 minutes for an inconsiderate family of four: enough said. Museum not conducive to mobility impaired visitors. One obviously can't go inside the cabins in a wheelchair or on a scooter. City tour was fast: size of the bus, width of the streets and traffic denaity complicated enjoyment of the landmarks. Ignore the GPS coordinates of the meeting point if you're on a cruise ship! I tried to follow the Google directions and everything step lengthened my arrival time. Asked at least 3 other tour operators before an information assistant finally identified the correct bus. Viator instructions didn't provide tour operator company name. After 40 minutes of walking, I arrived at the bus in the parking lot of the cruise port - a 5 minute walk from the ship!

Enjoyed the outdoor museum with all the historic buildings which have been moved here from local villages to create its own village. The display of boats was also very interesting. all the exhibits were well curated and labeled with explanations in English. The drive to the lighthouse was also interesting. We passed through several tunnels, going island to island to get to the lighthouse. The climb to the top of the lighthouse was up 85 narrow steps to the observation area. There was only room for about 6 people and traffic up-down was one way at a time. So, it took some patience and courtesy on everyone's part to get a turn.

The bus was clean and comfortable. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local landmarks and customs. We had a stunning view from the lighthouse and time to shop in the gift shop. I especially enjoyed seeing the turf house.

The tour was supposed to be in English however it was in German and English which took away from the experience

The pick up and meeting process was very smooth. Loved that the staff all had on yellow jackets. It was a great tour and well run.

Anita was a wonderful and informative guide! She shared historical events and local folklore. A great tour!

Local tour guide that provided wonderful insights and history about the area. Wonderful experience and glad we did something out of the city and on a few other islands.

A very informative guide and excellent driver made this trip to the lighthouse, Viking museum and Alesund most interesting. Lots of info about the area and the Country. A very good way to get familiar with the City and the surrounding area.
