Hold a Real Academy Award and Go Home with the Receipts to Prove It! The most fun part of the visit to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is the add-on to the ticket price (I think it was $15) to a visit to a little gallery where they will film you holding a real Academy Award statuette and "giving your Oscar speech" to the crowd. They will send you the film via email. This is the most fun I've had in a while. The museum is also terrific for photo ops in general - you can pose in the pink Barbie car, or you can sit behind the desk from The Godfather movies, or you can languish at the beach from the Jaws movie, and on... There's lots to see and learn about the movies, and if your feet wear out, there's a gallery on the main floor with comfy couches and a large screen with a film continuously looping that shows famous moments from the Academy Awards ceremonies. Or, as another top tip: you can also sit up on the rooftop level. Even if your feet are holding up just fine, it's worth it to walk up there and traverse the large seating space toward the railing. You'll see the famous Hollywood sign in the distance (see photo). Ticket prices are reasonable. You can purchase tickets when you arrive. We parked in the nearby structure that also is utilized for the La Brea Tar Pits and the LaCMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). So, depending on how much time you have, you can park once and go to several places of interest. We probably spent three hours at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and I am very glad we went here.
I would definitely book again.Very fun and interactive great time with family, friends or even solo.
Bought tickets directly with academy museum for the Annie Lebowitz talk, and around 200 people couldn’t get in because they oversold, just like a budget airline would. We had to then wait in line for another 30 minutes to get a refund, while paying for parking. If you’ve sold tickets, you have to let people in! Spoke to the head of the museum, (I had to force him to stand there and listen because he couldn’t wait to leave), and instead of hearing what I was saying he kept telling me to put it in an email. I’m sorry as*hole, you need to take responsibility.
Well organized displays and clean common area. There was something of interest for everyone in our party. The Marilyn Monroe exhibit was interesting, with many items I’ve never seen.
Primarily went for the Jaws exhibit which was extremely interesting. The rest of the museum was very boring!
Excellent-Jaws exhibit special but likely better if you have seen the film. Music development was amazing. Perspective incredible too - my garden is bigger than the beach which looks enormous in the final movie!
If you love the movies it is a must stop. We loved the exhibits... one was in progress and everything was well done. Leave at least 3 hrs to do fully.
My husband and I loved seeing actual costumes, scripts, planning, notes, etc from some very famous movies, in particular, one of my very favourite movies, The Wizard of Oz. We also loved the Oscars exhibit and right at the end, the small Toy Story exhibit was so cool to see. The museum was immaculate, the staff were friendly and everything was well spaced out and accessible for all. Lastly, the cost was extremely reasonable and kids free, amazing! Our kids decided not to come but regretted it after seeing our photos.
The Jaws exhibition was exceptional! Got the opportunity to move a mechanical Jaws. Learned a lot about the behind the scenes and even a deep dive into the merchandising.
Wonderful museum , but only if you are a movie buff . The Oscar Experience is a must . For $15 you got to hold a golden Oscar in your hand , wave and say an acceptance speech in front of a virtual audience of celebrities. Sorry , you can’t take the Oscar home . I mean , it’s only $15 , what do you expect ! . But you do get a video to remember your life time achievement by . A tip —- please prepare a good speech before you go . You don’t really want to waste the opportunity of a lifetime , do you ?
