I had an incredible time touring Addis Ababa, Danakil Depression, and Erta Ale with East Africa Tours. Everything was perfectly organized – from city sights and cultural icons in Addis to the surreal landscapes of Danakil and the unforgettable night hike onto the glowing lava lake at Erta Ale. The team was super professional, knowledgeable, and took great care of us throughout. Despite the remote and challenging locations, logistics, safety, and comfort were all handled flawlessly. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the real Ethiopia with a reliable and experienced local operator.

Afar is a place that feels like stepping into another world—a raw, untamed region where the Earth’s power and beauty collide. Dankli Depression, offered the surreal landscapes: the salt flats stretching endlessly, the vibrant sulfur pools glowing in alien shades of yellow and green, and the smoking craters of Erta Ale, one of the few permanent lava lakes in the world. The experience is one of extremes—searing heat during the day, a stark reminder of Afar’s reputation as one of the hottest inhabited places on Earth, contrasted with the coolness of the night under a sky blanketed with stars. The Tour guide and his support staff provided the best hospitality, oh you can’t forget the food, which added a layer or two to my belle and gave strength to the experience

The group trip to the Danakil Desert was something very special and took us into a very strange, barren but beautiful world. We saw glowing lava from the crater rim of the Erta Ale volcano. Sleeping in the open air under an indescribable starry sky. Huge salt lakes and the colorful acid lakes of the Dallo volcano at 120 m below sea level. We were also very impressed by the hospitality and way of life of the Afrar people. An unforgettable and well organized experience.
