Om du letar efter en matupplevelse som känns som att äta middag med lokala vänner snarare än en turistchecklista har du kommit rätt. Välkommen till en avslappnad kulinarisk resa genom Bratislavas gamla stadsdel. Vi hoppade över små prover och trånga grupper och utformade turen runt 5 sittplatser som bildar en komplett måltid. Med max 8 gäster njuter vi av landmärken mellan lokalerna och avslöjar historien bakom varje rätt. Under ledning av en passionerad lokal Guide kommer du att upptäcka hur vår kultur speglas på tallriken. Tillsammans kommer vi att uppleva ett traditionellt slovakiskt välkomnande som används för att välkomna besökande presidenter, smaka på en tröstande julsoppa och slå oss ner för Slovakiens nationalrätt och en österrikisk-ungersk specialitet, tillsammans med lokalt vin eller öl. Vi avslutar kvällen på ett café med ett historiskt bakverk som skyddas av EU. Det är det perfekta sättet att sakta ner, ansluta och smaka på hjärtat av Centraleuropa – vilket gör ditt stopp i Bratislava minnesvärt. Kom hungrig och lämna helt nöjd.

Vi dyker rakt in i kullerstenslabyrinten i Gamla stan. Vi kommer inte bara att vandra planlöst; vi kommer att följa den exakta kröningsvägen där mäktiga monarker en gång gick mot sin ära. Längs vägen visar jag platser som vanliga turister lätt missar – vi kliver in i ett dolt 1500-talsapotek som känns som en tidskapsel och vi ser Mikaelsporten, den enda överlevande av den medeltida stadsbefästningen. Men jag är inte här för att bara prata om kungar och drottningar i sammetskläder. Bratislava har också en grynigare och mer heroisk sida. Vi kommer att stå på torget där sammetsrevolutionen förändrade allt och förde med sig frihet, men vi kommer också att titta in i de mörkare hörnen av det förflutna på den gamla avrättningsplatsen. Under vår promenad kommer jag att dela med mig av många fascinerande fakta, men glöm de torra föreläsningarna. Det här är ett öppet samtal.
Ta en titt på Mikaelsporten – det är den enda bevarade portalen för de medeltida befästningarna. Under medeltiden var det här staden slutade och den farliga världen utanför började.
Gamla rådhuset är inte bara en byggnad, det är stadens historia huggen i sten. Den har stått på Stortorget sedan 1400-talet och är fortfarande en symbol för kommunal autonomi och stabilitet. Dess dragningskraft ligger inte i symmetri utan i ett vackert slags kaos – ett lapptäcke av gotiska, renässans- och barockelement som smält samman under århundraden. Om du letar efter ett riktigt ärr av historien, se kanonkulan inbäddad i fasaden, som lämnades där av Napoleons trupper 1809. Idag hyser det Bratislava stadsmuseum, men den verkliga dragningen är tornet. Klättringen belönar dig med en utsikt över Gamla stan precis som den är: kompakt, rödtakad och onekligen fotogenisk.
Inget besök i Bratislava skulle vara komplett utan att säga hej till vår största kändis. Čumil, bronsmannen som kikar ut ur en brunn, är utan tvekan den mest fotograferade figuren i staden. Även om han inte har några rötter i medeltidens historia, har han blivit en symbol för Bratislavas sinne för humor och avslappnade vibe. Han är den enda "arbetaren" som inte har gjort en enda sak på årtionden förutom att le mot förbipasserande – och ärligt talat, ibland avundas vi honom alla för det jobbet.
På stadens gamla gator stannar vi vid en plats som har blivit en legendarisk symbol för Bratislavas tålamod och förfining. Salvatorapoteket är mer än bara en byggnad med vacker fasad; det är hem till en av de mest utsökta barockinteriörerna i Europa. Jag kommer att dela den otroliga historien om hur denna historiska skatt återvände hem efter årtionden av exil, liksom den lilla men fascinerande kopplingen mellan denna plats och Titanics tragiska öde. Det är en inblick i en era när apotek inte bara var butiker, utan fristäder för vetenskap och konst, vilket återställer en känsla av gammaldags adel till staden idag.
När du blickar mot Donau ser du ett av 1900-talets djärvaste arkitekturprojekt. Större delen av SNP (Slovakiska nationella upprorets bro), med dess ikoniska "UFO" observationsdäck, är en struktur som delade Bratislava för evigt - både bokstavligt och metaforiskt. Vi kommer att prata om det höga pris som staden betalade för denna futuristiska dröm, eftersom en stor del av de historiska judiska kvarteren och slottskvarteren var tvungna att rivas för att ge plats för den. Det är ett fascinerande exempel på Brutalistisk arkitektur, utsedd till "Århundradets byggnad" i Slovakien 2001.
Vi promenerar längs stadens elegantaste boulevard, verkligen "vardagsrummet" i Bratislava. Hviezdoslavtorget, kantat av historiska fasader och frodiga träd, är en plats där sofistikering naturligt möter den dagliga rytmen i staden. We had a wonderful experience with JAKUP our Independent tour guide who offered us a wonderful three hour tour in Bratislava Slovakia. We (my husband and myself) got to taste various foods from the country. Best part was we had foods at places the locals themselves ate. Jakup provided us with an Intimate and fun tour, The tour not only included the food, but a host of other information. Jakup provided us with a wealth of knowledge regarding the culture, the traditions, the political systems, lots of history and family life
Do not hesitate, book this tour with Jakub for your first day in Bratislava! Jakub was such an excellent tour guide. He met us at the designated location right on time, was very friendly and attentive to our group. He was gregarious, generous, and had an easy smile. He made each and every one of us feel like his personal guest in his city. Spending a few hours with him touring Bratislava and trying different dishes was delightful. Jakub took care with each of the four of us on the tour and considered our needs and comfort levels all along the way. He is very focused on a small tour size, so that he can deliver the best experience to all of his guests. The amount of food we ate for the price we paid was incredible. At one point I lost count of how many different things we tried along the way. We had local sweet dishes, local savory dishes, some local drinks, all sprinkled with local history and highlights. It doesn't feel like a lot of food at the beginning, but by the time you arrive at the last location you are very full! All the food we tried was very approachable and we were all excited to dig in. Every restaurant and cafe we went to had a table set aside for us. It was an exceptionally hot day, so it was nice to constantly step inside to rest and cool off a bit while enjoying delicious soups, pastries, meats, cheeses, etc. It was obvious from every place we went that Jakub had chosen each of them with care and reason. For my American palate none of the food was "weird" or "exotic" but more interesting and local flavors that I would have missed if I had chosen restaurants on my own. This tour is not a tourist trap in any way, it is the exception to what you normally find online and I wouldn't hesitate to bring friends on Jakub's tour in the future. The food tour does move along from place to place, but at no time did we feel rushed. At each location we were able to sit down, enjoy the food, chat with Jakub a bit about local history and events, and get to know each other on the tour as well. And with it being such a small intimate group you felt very welcome to ask questions and go a bit deeper. We even popped into a couple historic buildings that we would have missed. And, we got to understand and appreciate Jakub's personal and family history to the city. I would definitely recommend this tour on your first day in the city. As not only will you get more comfortable with the food, you'll also get a sense of the area, and be left with plenty more sites to check out on your own time, and some great restaurants to go back to for a meal later in your trip. This tour is not to be missed. Do not hesitate, book with Jakub and then rub your belly after as you relish in the delightful experience of it all.

We had a wonderful time learning about Bratislavas history and its foods. Our guide Jakub was a wonderful host with a friendly and approachable attitude. The pacing and locations were all perfect for the warm weather. overall it was a well put together tour with visual aids, great facts, great food and great company! Would definitely recommend for first time visitors of the city.

What an exception, interesting and FUN Tour. Jakub was a great host sharing information and personal stories about Bratislava, Slovakia generally and family life, while introducing us to a wonderful variety of local delicacies and traditional foods. As a coeliac, requiring gluten free food, Jakob looked after me exceptionally well, making sure that the traditional food was gluten free or at least receiving a GF option where the centuries old recipes could not be altered. My family, who could eat everything gave it all a 10 out of 10, as did I5. Jakub exceeded all our expectation, thank you so much. We would never had truely experienced Bratislava and the food on offer in the city without your tour.

This was an excellent food tour. Ive done quite a few in europe and I would say that this was my favourite! We had enough time to enjoy each spot and we had really enjoyable conversations with our guide Jakub. He was very knowledgeable about his city and country and really helped us get a good feel for what it is like to live on Bratislava! We tried many local and country wide specialities and Jakub even shared with us some special snacks at the end as a lovely surprise! This was excellent value for the money.

Highly recommend the tour! Jakub was very knowledgeable about the city and the food. Great mix between getting to explore the old town as well as trying pretty much most of the local dishes and drinks. You will not stay hungry! Jakub was also very friendly and engaging and shared many personal experiences with the group. Most of the meals were served in various restaurants around the old town, where he reserved seats so that we didn't have to wait. If you can, you should consider doing this tour in the beginning of your trip. It provides a great overview of the city and the cuisine!

I really enjoyed the food/walking tour with Jakub. He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable on the city and history of the region.
