Sightseeing i Aten börjar med kullen Akropolis som kommer att göra din dag. På den historiska kullen kommer du att ha möjlighet att se Herodes Atticus Odeon, Athena Nike-templet, den monumentala porten (Propylaea), Erechtheum och naturligtvis det berömda Parthenon, huvudtemplet tillägnat jungfrugudinnan Athena.
Propyléerna är de monumentala ingångarna till det heliga området tillägnat Athena, stadens skyddsgudinna. Byggd av arkitekten Mnesicles med Pentelic marmor, deras design var avantgardistisk. Sydväst om Propyléerna, på en vall som skyddar huvudingången till Akropolis, ligger det joniska templet Apteros Nike.
Parthenon, huvudtemplet tillägnat jungfrugudinnan Athena, den eviga symbolen för den atenska demokratin och den västerländska civilisationen.
Poseidontemplet och Athenatemplet, den märkligaste och heligaste platsen i antikens Aten.

Dionysos Elefthereus teater är en stor teater i Aten, anses vara världens första teater, byggd vid foten av den atenska Akropolis
Herodes Atticus Odeon är en romersk teaterbyggnad i sten belägen på den sydvästra sluttningen av Akropolis i Aten, Grekland. Byggnaden färdigställdes 161 e.Kr. och renoverades sedan 1950.
Efter Akropolis kommer vi att gå mot Zeustemplet, det största i antiken, tillägnat gudarnas kung, genom Hadrianus båge.
Vi besöker Panathenaic Stadium där de första moderna olympiska spelen hölls 1896.
Sedan flyttar vi in i stadens historiska centrum och kör uppför Atens högsta kulle, Lycabettus Hill, där du har den bästa panoramautsikten över staden, från kullen Akropolis till Egeiska havet.
Akademibyggnaden utgör en av tre delar i en ”arkitektonisk trilogi”. Den grundades med den konstitutionella förordningen av den 18 mars 1926, som en akademi för vetenskap, humaniora och konst.
Det nationella och kapodistriska universitetet i Aten är den största statliga institutionen för högre utbildning i Grekland, och bland de största universiteten i Europa. Det praktfulla Atens universitet ritades av den Danska arkitekten Christian Hansen och stod klart 1864.
Greklands nationalbibliotek byggdes i slutet av 1800-talet, som den sista i Atens arkitekttrilogi, en grupp av tre neoklassiska byggnader som också omfattar akademin och universitetet. Byggnaden ritades av Theophil Hansen,
Vi kommer att se vaktombytet (Euzones) framför det gamla palatset, som idag är parlamentshuset, ovanför Atens centrala torg.
Greklands parlament, på grekiska känt som Voulí ton Ellínon, är Greklands parlament, beläget i det gamla kungliga slottet, med utsikt över Syntagmatorget i Aten. Parlamentet är den högsta demokratiska institution som företräder medborgarna genom ett valt organ av parlamentsledamöter.
Syntagmatorget är Atens centrala torg. Torget är uppkallat efter den konstitution som Otto, Greklands förste kung, var tvungen att utfärda efter ett folkligt och militärt uppror den 3 september 1843.

Our guide Panos was absolutely wonderful. He picked the 4 of us up at our hotel in a private car at 8am. Our first stop was the Acropolis where he had pre purchased our tickets and we had time to explore on our own. Later we saw different areas of the city which included stops to see the changing of the guard, walk through the botanical gardens, drove to the highest point in Athens for spectacular views and photos of the city, and saw the Olympic stadium, all the while Panos shared interesting historical facts. Panos was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. Instead of dropping us back at the hotel, we asked if he could recommend a good restaurant for lunch and drop us there instead. . The restaurant was delicious. The tour and our guide Panos were both a 10/10.
We would like to highly recommend our private tour guide, Ocean. He was very polite and very informative of all the beautiful sites in Athens. In fact, Ocean was the most informative tour guide we have ever had (and we have been on many, many tours). We learned a lot and enjoyed him very much! We would want him again if we ever come back to Athens.
I booked a private van tour for 8 people and the company provided a very roomy, comfortable van with room for our luggage. The tour operator was extremely responsive to my requests. Our driver/guide Tolis was super fun, knowledgeable, adaptable and helpful in securing a dinner reservation for our group. We spent just the right amount of time at the Acropolis while the "drive-by" landmarks were fine to see in that manner. The highlight was the changing of the guard outside the prime minister's residence.
Peter was prompt in meeting us at our hotel as we began our day of seeing the sights. He was very entertaining and enjoyable to listen to as we learned so much along our tour. Because of his knowledge of the city, we were able to avoid crowds to enjoy many of the sights we wanted to see and visit! We had plenty of time to spend at each site, making the entire day very enjoyable.

Giannis was our tour guide and he was stand-out the best tour guide we have had on our holiday, where we stopped of at Athens as our port of call on our cruise. He was on top of communications for pickup at the cruise port, tailored our experience and assisted us with our unexpected pharmacy stop too. Very knowledgeable about Athens and had very interesting facts to share. At the end of the trip he dropped us off (at our request) to get possibly the best souvlaki I have eaten, before we headed back to our cruise ship. The tour itself was the private half day experience to see the Acropolis and other major sites. Car was excellent, aircon, and comfortable journey throughout.
Very nice overview of the city
Long walk to acropolis but once you get to the acropolis the views are amazing. The steps are very uneven so if you have knee problems they could be tricky Also ask for Peter he was amazing very knowledgeable and true concern for us
Our tour guide, Stephanos, was so personable, knowledgeable and funny! We learned all about the history of Greece, Athens, the Acropolis, and saw many sites including the changing of the guards (that was a treat!) He was very accommodating for our group.
Was such an amazing tour and our guide Stephanos was the best! He was very knowledgeable and could answer all of our questions with a little humour! No selfies with him because he was more than helpful to document everything and take photos of us! Everything was perfectly timed and 4 hours was all you need!
