My wife and I took the 2-Day Snæfellsnes Peninsula & West Iceland Minibus Tour with Tröll Expeditions in late February. It had snowed a few days before our arrival in Iceland, and the landscape was covered in snow. It was beautiful. One day is spent circumnavigating the peninsula, hitting the highlights, and one day is spent seeing other sights in West Iceland — including the Viðgelmir Lava Cave. Our driver/guides were knowledgeable, and I appreciated not having to drive, as on occasion visibility dropped to a car length or two. Transportation is by minibus, so the maximum size is about 15. Staying on the bus while at a stop was an option for those who did not want to get out into the cold and wind. There was a good amount of time allowed at each stop, so we could take a short hike and take photos. The view from our hotel after day one was a bonus.
This 2-day, small group tour, was a spectacular experience. The peninsula itself, the lava cave, the beach, the waterfalls, all of it! If you find yourself on Haffi's bus, you're in for a treat! He is very knowledgeable and does not have any shortage of amazingly fun and informative stories along the way. He was with us every step of the way and made an already great experience, even better!! A modern day Viking for sure. Highly recommend this company for a truly magical experience 😊
It was a very nice tour. Our guide Hafi told us a lot about the history and the country. Also the unplanned stops for beautiful landscape pictures with the special highlight of seeing an eagle were simply awesome. His choice of music on the way back was exactly to my taste. If I come to Iceland again in the summer of 2027, I would be happy to enjoy another tour with Hafi :)
The experiences I most enjoyed were the Barnafoss and the lava caves. The waterfalls are a beautiful blue. The lava cave was a great learning experience of the power of nature.
The itinerary was perfectly arranged. We visited many wonderful attractions and had a great time. Our guide Juliana was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the trip. Everything was relaxed and enjoyable. The weather in Iceland is very changeable, but our guide drove safely and skillfully. We felt secure and well taken care of the entire time. It was an amazing experience and a perfect trip! Highly recommended!
Amazing tour in Iceland ! John was a fantastic guide. You can see he really loves his job. He planned everything well and explained things clearly at each place. He shared lots of good information. I really hope I can join a longer tour with him next time. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for an exceptional guide!
We were really looking forward to our trip to Iceland, but the two-day trip to the west coast unfortunately severely affected our travel experience. Already at the beginning, the tour guide seemed unstructured and overtired. He mentioned himself that he had barely slept, which left us feeling uneasy from the start. During the journey towards the west coast, there was little information on the route, stops or toilet breaks. Instead, the guide repeatedly made inappropriate jokes and comments about other nations, which we felt was unprofessional. Due to the lack of organization, we were delayed several times throughout the tour. Among other things, the guide would regularly come back late, taking photos or being the last to return from restaurants. In sub-zero temperatures we had to wait outside for the bus several times and then boarded a cold bus, as the heating apparently did not work properly. This made us sit on the bus with winter jackets on both days. All this would have been disappointing, but we found the driving behaviour particularly critical: In slippery roads and sub-zero temperatures, the guide regularly used his mobile phone to take photos of himself or the landscape during the trip. Combined with his fatigue, this led to a very unsafe driving style with serpentine lines, jerky steering movements and unadjusted speed in corners. We felt uncomfortable and not safe throughout the tour. A new booking with this provider is out of the question for us.
We already started the tour with a bad feeling, as the rider had not slept as he had not slept enough. Instead of explaining the daily routine, we drove off and only after a long time did the driver start making inappropriate jokes instead of contributing anything to the landscape or sights. This was attributed to the language barrier at the end of the tour, but this cannot be because he could make inappropriate jokes and remarks in very good English. In our view, this was a complete lack of the relevant expertise. On the first night there was a realistic chance of the Northern Lights. The guide didn't say a word, nor did he give any tips on where to best see the Northern Lights at the hotel. If the designation and northern lights are included in the tour description, a hint of this would have been the least. The guide seemed disorganized overall - the times of the stops seemed arbitrary and not appropriate to the sights. The itinerary was changed so that we reached a sight on the first day only in the dark - basically fine, but would have been absolutely avoidable with better time management. The guide also could not operate the technology on the bus or the heating, so we froze for two days in sub-zero temperatures on the bus. But the worst thing for us was the constant use of mobile phone and camera at the wheel to write messages (?), take photos of the landscape and of ourselves. This is simply not possible and it is grossly negligent to risk the health and life of a full-occupancy minibus on a slippery roadway to take photos of the sunrise, sunset or one's own face. Unfortunately, this experience has had a lasting bad impact on our travel experience and we would never book a tour with this provider again.
Breathtaking places, everything is beautiful in Iceland. Our tour guide Branimir was on time, polite, and super nice. He told us the history behind every sightseeing. The van was confortable and everything was great.
Very, very good experience. Taken a lot of photos with friends! It was also patient enough to get us a lot of photos! And snacks and hot cocoa!!!!!! I'm so happy to see the Aurora with the naked eye tonight!!!!!! Thank you 🙏🏻 for dreaming! A VERY HAPPY NIGHT!!!!!!
