The guide was so friendly, enthusiastic and informative. The content was fascinating and timing was good with enough hands on things to keep my 9 year old boy engaged. Really enjoyed it.
Brilliant tour with amazing insights into the wonderful world of film costumes and props and sets and everything to do with a whole plethora of amazing films Wētā have worked on . Amazing
I went with a friend and my two young children. The tour was interesting and the kids were really engaged. My issue was with the artist (I believe her name was Janet) who made sculptures with aluminum foil. She was giving her spiel and my young daughter, who was very excited, tried to ask a question. Instead of politely asking my daughter to wait to ask a question, she rudely told my daughter to "chill." I was taken aback at her comment and attitude. I could tell it embarrassed my daughter. That soured the experience for me.
I really liked everything about the tour except for the speed. It was too rushed. Please allow more time for your guests to explore. Perhaps some insulation between the walls so you cannot hear the grouper before and after. Otherwise amazing!!!!
Fabulous! Learned a lot, saw a lot of cool OG props, and interacted with some of the artists!
Fantastic if your a movie buff, or just interested in cool stuff!!
One of the highlights of my New Zealand road trip! I visited the Wētā Workshop Experience while traveling solo around New Zealand, and it was an unforgettable stop. Seeing the artistry that goes into creating props, costumes, creatures, and special effects was incredible. Every exhibit showcased an amazing level of creativity and craftsmanship, and I learned so much about how movie magic comes to life. The experience was immersive, informative, and fun from start to finish. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Wellington, especially fans of fantasy, science fiction, or filmmaking.
Kia ora, Thank you for your fantastic review! We're honoured to hear that the Wētā Workshop Experience was one of the highlights of your New Zealand road trip. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed exploring the artistry behind our props, costumes, creatures, and practical effects, and that the experience gave you a deeper appreciation for the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into bringing imaginary worlds to life. We hope the rest of your journey through New Zealand was just as memorable, and we'd love to welcome you back again in the future. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations
Fascinating journey to see unfold, from the early days of Meet the Feebles to current productions. Loved hearing the stories about Tanya and Richard and Weta Workshop because it helps you realize that creativity needs determination and drive to florish, and to gain recognition as a business. Our guide was great. Knowledgeable, energetic, entertaining annecdotes. Displays were incredible. What an opportunity to see so many iconic costumes and props up close. For someone like me, who worked in theatre (costumes) for many years, I found the tour was too short. I would have liked to spend more time scrutinizing the details of the costumes and props. I've also been a huge LOTR fan since 1977 (first time I read the book) and to be in a room filled with LOTR items was overwhelming. It was hard to focus on what our guide was saying when my attention was constantly being pulled around the room as one thing after another grabbed my eye.
Kia ora, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed learning about the journey of Wētā Workshop, from the early days of *Meet the Feebles* through to our more recent work. Tanya and Richard's story is certainly one of passion, creativity, and perseverance, and it's wonderful to know that this resonated with you. It's also fantastic to hear that your guide's knowledge, energy, and entertaining anecdotes helped bring the experience to life. As someone with a background in theatre costume work, we're especially pleased that you appreciated the craftsmanship and detail that goes into our costumes and props. We completely understand your wish to spend more time admiring the pieces up close, particularly as a long-time Lord of the Rings fan. There is certainly a lot to take in, and we're glad that being surrounded by so many iconic items was such a memorable experience, even if it made it difficult to know where to look next! Thank you again for sharing your experience with us. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another visit in the future. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations
I visited this attraction with the intention of seeing and photographing everything related to the movies THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but it is not that type of experience, as they do not allow any photography during the tour, nor is it a set tour, it is a tour explaining how the molds and props for the movies are created, AND THEY DO NOT ALLOW TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF ANY COSTUME, so I found it very boring.
Kia ora, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our tour is designed to showcase the creative processes behind filmmaking, including practical effects, props, creatures, and world-building techniques, rather than as an exhibition from a specific film franchise. However, we appreciate your disappointment and passing on this feedback. We also appreciate that our no-photography policy during the guided tour may have been disappointing. These restrictions are in place due to copyright restrictions with the pieces on display, meaning we can't have them openly photographed. We value your feedback, as it helps us better understand our visitors' expectations and continue improving how we communicate the nature of our experiences. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations
