Wonderful experience! So grateful we booked this tour. We had two teenage children and our guide, Florence, was incredible. She was knowledgeable, engaging and provided so much detail to help us truly enjoy this experience. Best way to see the Louvre!!!

We really enjoyed the visit to the Louvre. Veronica was an excellent guide and told us good, interesting and amusing stories about the art works. We saw the famous pieces and learned a lot. Being part of the tour meant we could skip lines and it made for a pleasurable afternoon at the Louvre.

I’ll start with the bad: it was pricey. About $1000 American for a family of six. That’s why I rated “value” as four stars instead of five. But then again, this is Paris, probably one of the most culturally and historically rich cities in the world and ultimately I won’t lose sleep over it because the experience was still pretty damn cool. The good: our guide, Manu, was amazing. I’m sure most guides are excellent at what they do but Manu stands out. Hailing from Italy, he has formally studied literature, art, and art history, and he was able to show us the evolution of Western art across the ages … going from simple 2D representations, to 3D, to incorporating emotion and movement in objects that are essentially still. We are not art lovers. We’re your typical Americans who haven’t a clue about French history or even European history for that matter. We had no idea why the Mona Lisa is famous or what was so special about Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. We came to experience the Louvre because it’s famous and the architecture is compelling. All I can say is that Manu did an outstanding job showing us the importance of Western art and how various forces in history have shaped it. I came away from the experience much enlightened, better informed, and with a sense of appreciation of art that I’ve never had. I’m a little disappointed in myself for being so ignorant of the various civilizations in history or the legendary stories that inspired their art (such as the Greek soldier who ran from Marathon to Athens). Manu made the tour enjoyable for our entire family with four kids ranging in age from 13 to 23. He would stop frequently to ask us questions about what we were seeing to get us to think about some of the subtle and not so subtle qualities of what we were looking at as an introduction to an important fact or lesson. Although my youngest was starting to fade towards the end (we arrived into Paris a little over 24 hours prior to the tour), Manu kept him engaged and interactive throughout. So in summary, I recommend this tour. I’m glad we did it. I’d probably do it again but next time I’ll try to book tickets further in advance in the hopes of acquiring them cheaper. I’d also recommend going earlier in the day so that you and your kids have plenty of energy to enjoy the museum (we attended the 1:30 PM tour but went to the mall down the road two hours ahead of time and burned some precious energy there).
