Really enjoyed this tour of a very nice family run Acetaia in Modena. The facility itself is impressive and the guide was very knowledgeable. I learned a lot and got to taste Balsamic Vinegars that I had previously only heard about. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend this tour.
Exceptional guide, High entrance fee considering the purchases often made after the visit.....
When in Modena, this balsamic vinegar tour should not be missed! Located at a small production family farm on the outskirts of town, the setting is beautiful. The grounds and the buildings are immaculate. The guide was very professional and gave us an exceptional tour grounded in history as well as the science behind the making of the vinegar. The tasting was the highlight, working our way up to the oldest, richest sample in their stock. I highly recommend this tour when in Modena.
This is a small family vineyard and absolutely delightful. We had a lovely and informative tour with Aurora. She explained everything very clearly about the process of making the balsamic vinegar and was very fluent in English. We tasted all levels of the vinegar including the oldest and also were introduced to their other products, jams and honey which we also loved. We were the only couple booked that day so in essence had a private tour. I highly recommend this experience.
We really enjoyed the tour with Aurora. She did a very thorough and entertaining presentation of the process.
Nice visit and welcome, in French, the guide was friendly and took the time to answer all our questions, good tasting
We had a lovely experience with Aurora giving us a tour of the farm and balsamic production. She was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. She was friendly and interacted well with my 11 year old daughter. We were the only people there, which was a treat. We sampled all the products afterwards, but there was no pressure to buy. We did because their balsamic was very good. She even called us a taxi to return to the station. It is only 10 min outside of Modena. I would highly recommend.
What a fun and interesting tour! Aurora was very friendly and spent quite some time chatting with me when I got to the meeting place early. Then the tour itself was fascinating - it's a long and involved process to produce balsamic vinegar! The tour was just the right length - some time standing, but not too much, and a chance to sit during the tasting at the end. And, it was easy to get a taxi to and from the centre of town.
We were lucky enough to have Aurora lead us through the tour and tasting. Aurora is a very knowledgeable and poised young woman. She speaks English well and was able to easily explain the process of making balsamic vinegar and the different methods for aging the products. It was very interesting. The vineyard property is lovely. The tasting was comprehensive and extremely interesting. Definitely recommend this tour. Also, just to let people know-the vineyard is located about 12 minutes drive from the Modena train station. There were many taxis right outside the station. Important information for tourists arriving in Modena by train.
After reading Rick Steves' review on Acetaia Marche balsamic vinegar plant & tasting tour, my wife and I decided to give it a try.. Although I am not a "need to go on a vinegar tour" person, reservations were made online directly with the farm. Took taxi from Modena train starion to farm (€16). The farm operation was relocated there in 2015. However they still have older stock of vinegar from 1880's when the family was given a large starter vinegar barrel in 1905. The tour with our guide, Aurora, was remarkably rewarding. The history of and making of balsamic vinegar DOP and IGP making IS AS MUCH or even more complex than fine wine. While on tour in the attic aging room, we noticed two workers decanting and transferring the aging vinegar from barrel to barrel. Turns out the lady working was the wife of the owner of the farm. Additionally, later downstairs the tour happened to cross paths with the owner and husband of the lady working in the attic. It is truly amazing that the owners were doing daily "grind "work instead of sitting behind a desk in a nice comfortable office. One felt the whole operation was run with hard work from top to bottom with respect for, and a genuine love in making their product. Learning the laws and regulations that guide these producers is unbelievable. The knowledge imparted by Aurora was insightful. She explained the slight differences in the acidity, flavor, sweetness, & smoothness of the lines. Preferences were uniquely different among tasters and was not necessarily just price points. We appreciated the hospitality of Mr. & Mrs. Marche, and their crew- the dedication in producing a quality product line of which they can be proud. Rick Steves was right again. It was a gift of an experience. We send the next generation of Marche's good wishes to continue in this spirit so more people can visit and enjoy their wonderful hospitality and product.
