We experienced some wonderful places and would do this tour again. We did have some difficulties keeping up with our tour guide and hearing what she was saying. She began talking before the entire group arrived to her location.
Overall this was a fun excursion. First off Russell was an entertaining host. He was friendly and made our trip to Dover and Canterbury pleasant. All three stops were breathtaking and I only wish we got to spend more time at each. I don't know why these tours try to jam in as many events as possible into one trip. I'd far rather have spent longer and booked two trips. If you're a slow walker, or want to drink in your experience with time for a bite you're not going to get to see much of Dover Castle in the time scheduled. I also wouldn't call this a tour. It was more of a shuttle with a bit of wit along the way. We were read some quotes and shared a few poems and songs, but there is so much of the history of each location I would have loved to have delved more into. You're also not guided at the actual locations, other than to point out the way and time to get back to the bus which was a bit disappointing. We were basically dropped off and then left on our own to explore. Perhaps what some prefer, but I could've taken a train and achieved a similar result. That said, if you are looking for a day tour to see a few places with minimal planning, this is a great way to do so.
Calum, our tour guide, and the driver were excellent. Very enjoyable trip!
The walking at Do er Castle is very strenuous. Don’t go to WWII Caves if you have trouble walking up steep hills.
The tour was very interesting. I however suggest to spend more time in Dover. The day we arrived, lots of school kids were visiting and the tunnel.and hospital tour were not open to public until 1.5 hours after our arrival. Because of this we missed some areas.
Most impressive part of this tour was the flexibility in which you can do it. I will start with saying you should definately attempt to go on an "off" day such as Monday or Tuesday as we did. The admission fees were included in the ticket, but the guidle allowed for great flexibility with advice and guidance on how to make the most of your experience. The driver was clearly skilled! While the guide Calum's jokes were hit or miss as all guides tend to be, his friendliness, open nature, and good guidance were definately consistent. It is a full day tour in every sense of the meaning, it felt like a complete away day, but increased the sense that you got a bit of bang for your buck.
The view was amazing in the white cliff and informative in Dover castle.
Would have been 5 out of 5 except for the terrible weather, which is no one’s fault. But it was really terrible!
Thirty years ago I did this tour with my parents and today with my spouse. I really enjoyed this tour overall and we were lucky for a day of beautiful weather. I like the combination of activities but think more time should be dedicated to Dover Castle and less to Canterbury. The cathedral was great but some of the charm of Canterbury has been lost over the last 30 years as the town has modernized. The Castle has so much to see combining the original history with the WWII events. Two hours is not enough for as large an area that must be traversed, and the hiking is steep at times. The WWII tunnels take a minimum of an hour if you are lucky to get in before the cue grows. The tower and courtyard take at least 44 minutes and the hike between them is another quarter of an hour. Shuttles would be helpful to move people across the property. The mobility shuttles were inoperable the day we visited.
Wonderful trip! Marge ( tour guide) and Vinnie ( driver) were knowledgeable, personable and made for a lovely day. It was very convenient to have all of the entry tickets ( Dover Castle, Canterbury Cathedral) taken care of in advance. Could have swapped out some time at Dover Castle for more time in Canterbury, though. Beautiful, historic locations. Easy to find and get to pick up point. Overall, 10/10 would recommend!!!!
