The host is wonderful. He keeps things lively and taylors the tour and tasting to your preferences. 10/10
We've done this cruise two times before (prior to Covid) and it was excellent with Uniworld. This year we decided to introduce our family to Uniworld - big mistake! This trip started off in Amsterdam with a Uniworld Rep, Jacqueline who had little communication with anyone, The hotel was to far away from city centre, the canal cruise was a joke - repeated same commentary three or four times, Ridiculous amount of money for a bad beginning to our trip. (You could do this a lot cheaper on your own). The cruise on the SS Victoria was okay - however, to call it Castles Along the Rhine - again ridiculous. The commentary used to be so interesting but now there is very little and quite honestly boring . The cable car ride in Boppard was not worth doing and again, not at all up to our expectations when compared to previous trips! The Cruise Manager was useless - again not up to the standards that have always been expected with Uniworld. The only redeeming factor was our post-cruise extension in Lucerne - the Uniworld Rep, Maria was excellent. Having done 14 trips with this company, I would have to say that either they are under new management or they just don't care anymore. Fortunately, there are lots of other cruise companies in Europe to choose from. However; I should point out that the restaurant, Lounge & Housekeeping staff were very good and because of them, they get 3 stars. The Cruise Mgr. would get 0. The S S Victoria - definitely not as good as any of their other ships. We had originally booked this on the River Queen and Uniworld changed it. We complained at the time, but they didn't offer to let us change to a trip the Queen was doing.
Hi there, you have left your review at the wrong service / experience. I’m not a captain of a ship nor do I have a boat and I don’t start my tour in Amsterdam… good idea through! I’m a single tour operator who offer wine tours by car along the Rhein. Next time get in touch for a grape time cruising the Rhein valley if you want visit castles and drink zippy Rieslings.
Tip go up by cable car (1st station) costs 9 euros but then you also have access to the castle with Mega wine barrels and the pharmacy museum. All worth the sight. And beautiful views of heidelberg and the neckar.
I did not go on the wine and cruising along the vines but only visited the Heidelberg Castle but could find Heidelberg Castle by itself! This is a ruin and a landmark in Heidelberg. The castle has been partially rebuilt since its demolition in the 1600s and 1700s. It is 260 feet up the Konigstubl mountain. It was built before 1214 and expanded into two castles in 1597, but a lightning bolt destroyed one castle in 1597.
Hi Peter thanks for the review & facts about Hberg castle... But I think you must have got your tours/ reviews crossed. I was in Australia on Jan 14th (all of Jan) so the tour you took was definitely not with me... if you can please try to re post your review or cancel that would be great and id be happy to take you amongst the vines next time
We were there as part of a tour. All guides were dressed in costumes. It was live narration and informative but I think you have to be “ into” that sort of thing. Great views of the city.
Hi there, This was not a tour you have taken with me. I don't dress up while hosting my wine and countryside tours.
