Uma vez que você chega a Berat, sua jornada começa no lendário Castelo de Berat, uma fortaleza que remonta ao século 4 aC. Situado em uma colina com vistas deslumbrantes sobre todo o vale, o castelo não é apenas um monumento - é uma das poucas fortalezas ainda habitadas no mundo. Ao explorar seus caminhos de pedra, você descobrirá como Berat foi invadida três vezes pelos otomanos, romanos e búlgaros, antes de se tornar um principado poderoso sob a nobre família Muzaka no século 14. Sua caminhada continua até o Museu de Iconografia Onufri, situado dentro da belamente renovada Catedral do século XVIII da Assunção de Santa Maria. Depois do castelo, o passeio leva você ao coração da cidade - os bairros tradicionais de Mangalem e Gorica. Vinculados pela elegante ponte Gorica sobre o rio Osum, estes bairros são famosos por suas casas brancas otomanas, empilhadas perfeitamente na colina, dando a Berat seu apelido: A cidade de mil janelas.

Partida para Berat às 9:00 e você será transferido para esta bela cidade por cerca de 2,5 a 3 horas. Este é um dos mais antigos e o orgulho da arquitetura albanesa. Os três principais bairros da cidade antiga são Mangalemi, Gorica e Kala, onde o próprio castelo está localizado.

Berat Castle is one of the most important historical and cultural monuments in Albania. Built on a high hill, it offers a stunning view of the city and the Osumi River. The castle has a history that dates back to antiquity, but was strengthened and took its present form during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Inside it are old churches, characteristic houses and cobblestone alleys, which still preserve the spirit of past centuries. It is a living testament to Albanian history and heritage

We took a private one-day tour to Berat from Saranda with Mariglen. He was very punctual and we left promptly at 8am. Mariglen was thoughtful, kind and considerate. He looked after us all day and accommodated all our needs. The day was long but it really worth the trip as Berat is stunning, and it gives you a break from the crowds and heat of Saranda. The price included breakfast in the beautiful Tepelene and audioguides in the Iconography Museum in Berat. Really recomended tour agency and a great guide experience with Mariglen!

The main attraction of Berat, the castle is definitely worth the walk up for amazing views over the area. Make sure to walk around the perimeter so you can see all the viewpoints including the byzantine church.
