I booked a private day trip out of Addis Ababa to see Debre Libanos and the Portuguese Bridge. The company was really easy to deal with via WhatsApp and very quick to respond to my numerous enquiries. My driver & guide, Migbaru, was excellent; really good company, lots of interesting stories to tell and full of local knowledge. Lunch was included at a restaurant in a spectacular location with very tasty Ethiopian food as well as pasta for those who prefer something plainer.
We left in the morning with Luel for an incredible day of sightseeing around Addis Ababa. It was possible to see the workers in the fields and the small villages on the side of the road. After 2 hours of travel, we arrived at the Debre Libanos Monastery. The place and its history are fascinating, especially the monk who guided us through the museum and the Church. We love it! The second part of the tour was to visit the Jemma river valley, with the Portuguese bridge and the bleeding heart baboons. The landscape is absolutely beautiful! The monkeys don't get very close (thankfully) but we were able to see the red color of their chest and several of their babies. Furthermore, lunch was delicious and we even stopped on the way to try the "Ethiopian tequila", approved by those who like alcoholic drinks. Anyway, Luel provided us with a very pleasant day, with lots of information about Ethiopia and its culture. We hope to return to do more tours with Luel :)
Great tour! We first planned just a quick stop-over in Addis Ababa, but then decided to stay two days to see more than the city. Having a glimpse on life in rural Ethopia was worth the decision, even though this meant a two hour drive out of town over sometimes bumpy roads one shares with cows and donkeys. Thanks to our driver Hop it felt comfortable and safe at all times. Luel did a great job explaining sights and people and answered our many questions patiently and friendly. A monk gave us an authentic view on Coptic religion and a tour through the church and museum of Debrelibanos. And then there was nature! The scenic views on the Blue Nile, waterfall and canyon were breathtaking beautiful! Even though the Portuguese Bridge could be a major touristic spot, we were the only tourists there. It was just peace and nature. As it was only us on the tour, we could adjust the schedule to our needs and Luel was very flexible with that. In sum this trip is highly recommendable!
After our business trip, my colleagues and I took a day off and ventured outside the city to immerse ourselves in the local surroundings. Guided by Luel, we had a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience. The team's professionalism and friendliness made communication a breeze. We absolutely relished the scenic journey to each destination and wholeheartedly recommend not letting this trip pass you by.
Really enjoyed the trip with our guide, Luel. He is very knowledgeable and passionate. He is also punctual, accommodating and easy to speak with. Our group certainly enjoyed the day trip to Debre Libanos and the Portuguese bridge. Appreciate and highly recommend this!
The versatile impressions outside Addis and the knowledgeable and exciting conversations with the guide on the way
I booked the tour because I finally wanted to see something other than the city. My expectations have been fully met. The tour guide responded to my interests and I got a lot of information and insights in conversation with him during the car ride. Although it was only a one-day tour, I was able to take away many impressions about culture and religion, rural Ethiopia and the wonderful nature.

I did this tour on my third day in Addis. Was collected in the morning at my AirBnB which was great. There's a bit of a long drive to the monastery and bridge but it's really worth it. My guide was very knowledgable and was open to talking about any topics, though his English wasn't the best, was more than passable. The monastery was beautiful and really inspiring. There was a museum tour too which gave the history of the area and Christianity in Ethiopia which was really nice. The bridge is pretty cool. I went before the rainy season so the water level was really low (March), apparently, October is when the river/waterfall is higher. Still really worth it. It's a bit of a rocky walk from the parking lot to the bridge, so perhaps wear trainers rather than the slops/sandals that I did. All in all, was worth the day, despite the long drive. Highly recommend

This is my 2nd review for Addis Ethiopia Tours and for Samuel. Each part of the trip provided great memories! Samuel was able to answer questions and provide insight about each location. I'm appreciative of the professionalism that displayed. Samuel went above and beyond to help me get specific souvenirs. Again, I would recommend this company and Samuel as a guide. Thank you for making my time in Addis enjoyable.

There is nothing extraordinary to see, but you can see the religious and peaceful monks of Ethiopians, and you can see the beautiful nature of Ethiopia on the way around the Portuguese Bridge. The landscape of the Ethiopian countryside from Addis Ababa to its destination is beautiful, and especially the fields where Teff grows are perfect for photographing. If you think of traveling at the pace of taking a day off for a while, it is a good travel course.
