We appreciated the update that there would be little to no bioluminescent activity on the voyage. That said, we should have taken it more seriously. It ended up being kayaking in the mangroves, a beautiful sunset, and then a completely dark journey back to shore. So many elements out of the guides' control, who remained good spirited and fun.
Hola Sally! Thank you for your thoughtful review! We truly appreciate your understanding that bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and can vary depending on environmental conditions. That's why we always do our best to keep our guests informed ahead of time so they can make the decision that's right for them. We're glad to hear you still enjoyed the beautiful sunset and the kayaking experience, and that our guides helped make the evening fun despite the limited bioluminescence. We hope to welcome you back to Puerto Rico for another adventure!
Absolutely beautiful experience! Rene was awesome and we never felt rushed even though it was a busy crowd! Highly recommend
Hola Clarissa! Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled you had such a beautiful experience! We'll be sure to share your compliments with René. We're also glad you never felt rushed and had the chance to fully enjoy the experience. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to see you again on your next visit to Puerto Rico!
It was amazing!!! Tour guides were all very knowledgeable, kind and professional. Kayaking was a bit intense definitely a workout but great experience overall. .
Hola Yajaira! We're delighted to hear you had an amazing experience with us! Our guides on the ground deserve all the credit and we'll definitely pass your message to them. Thank you again!
We had a great time on this trip! The time at each spot was perfect. We stopped at a fruit stand on the way to the rain forest to grab some snacks, and our guides bought us some fresh fruit for after we were done with water activities in the rain forest. We had a great time, especially for the price we paid! Amauri, Jean, and Easy all were fantastic guides with lots of fun facts and jokes. The group was about 23 people which felt comfortable. Highly recommend this experience!
Hola Alexi! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! We’re happy you enjoyed the beautiful drive, tasty treats at the fruit stand, and all the fun activities. It’s great to hear that Amauri, Jean and Eze made the adventure even better! We're grateful you joined us and hope to welcome you back again soon!
Not a great experience for a 60 yr old solo woman traveler. The pickup was chaotic and the waterfall hike was treacherous and nerve racking. Unless you like climbing slippery wet rocks with lots of others. The restaurant we were taken to between the hike and canoe trip was mediocre. And I was looking forward to paddling for the kayak trip but they would not let me go solo and put a person in the back who provided a lot of force so I barely got to row. And there was not much bioluminescence that night. The people running the trips were fine and knew what they were doing but they should just say up front that you’re not going to get a solo kayak.
Hola Beth! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our El Yunque adventure is an active tour that involves hiking on uneven, wet terrain and climbing over rocks, which can be challenging for some guests. We do our best to describe the physical nature of the experience in our tour details so guests can determine whether it is a good fit for their comfort level and abilities. We're glad to hear that you found both our rainforest and kayaking guides professional and knowledgeable. Safety is always our top priority, especially during activities such as the Bio Bay kayak tour. For this reason, the kayaking operator uses tandem kayaks to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience for all participants, particularly at night and in varying water conditions. Which is also mentioned in the tour description and the waiver you signed. We appreciate your comments regarding the restaurant stop and kayak setup, and we'll take your feedback into consideration as we continue working with our partners to improve the overall experience. Thank you again for joining us, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
I had so much fun, the experience was the best the guides were so nice and helpful, they made us feel like family. Everything was included with the price. Our group wasn’t too big and Jamie and Amauri (our guides) were always checking up on us to make sure we were good. This is best for water adventure, definitely worthy and fun trip.
Hola Ginabel! Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed the personalized experience with Amauri and Jamilex — they truly go above and beyond to make every guest feel safe and cared for. We're thrilled it was worth it for you and would love to have you join us again!
We booked their El Yunque hike + bio bay combo tour and it was hands-down one of the highlights of our entire Puerto Rico trip. Amaury and Bradley were our hosts for the El Yunque portion, and they set the tone immediately - warm, funny, and clearly passionate about sharing their island with visitors. Our group was a wonderful mix of couples, friends, and families, and we loved getting to know everyone along the way - two groups visiting from Delaware, and even two girlfriends from Chicago, just like us! Small world. The hike itself was a perfect pace - light enough to enjoy, with frequent stops for Bradley to share fascinating bits of history and nature. My favorite was learning about a unique tree species in El Yunque with leaves that are white on one underside - locals could tell a hurricane was approaching just by watching which way the wind flipped those leaves. We stopped at a gorgeous little cliff overlook for photos, and then came the best part: a natural rock slide, a jump off a 20-foot cliff, and a rope swing, all straight into the river. Pure joy. They even had fresh fruit waiting for us afterward, which hit the spot. Later that evening we headed to dinner (the food was delicious, though I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve forgotten the restaurant’s name!) before heading out for the bio bay kayak tour. Unfortunately the moon was too bright that night for the dinoflagellates to really glow, but the team running the tour - I believe Daniel, Miguel, Francisco, and one more wonderful guide whose name I sadly didn’t catch - made it a blast regardless. If any of you see this, thank you and I’m sorry for any name mix-ups! We will absolutely be back. Thank you to the whole Kayaking Puerto Rico team for an incredible, memorable day!
Hola! Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! We’re so glad you enjoyed your rainforest adventure with Amauri and Bradley — they’ll be thrilled to hear your kind words. You’re right, the waterslides, cliff jumping, and swing rope are the best part of the tour. Makes it an unforgettable experience! While the bioluminescence can vary depending on natural conditions, we appreciate your understanding and are happy to hear the rest of the day left such a positive impression. We’d love to welcome you back anytime for another Island Journeys adventure!
Amari and Jami were great tour guides! Very informative, kind, and patient! You definitely will have a great tour with these two. Recommend bringing two suits, long sleeve/pants for kayaking, extra shoes if you can - invest in water sandals like keen that have a thick sole and toe protection. Have a wick free towel if possible. You will not be needing backpack for the jungle tour - you’ll leave your stuff in the bus/vehicle. Dinner good and generous (which you’ll pay for). Can’t recommend enough
Hola Vanessa! Thanks for your great feedback! We're so happy to know you enjoyed the tour so much that you'd recommend it. Definitely made our day. Hope to hear back from you when you're back in Puerto Rico!
This was a 2 part adventure. The trip to El yunque was excellent for our family of 4 with 3 young people 14-17 and 23 yrs old. The tour guides Amaury and Bradley were fantastic with knowledge of the Forrest and taking time to explain the plan and sights to all. They did an amazing job with safety of all people on the tour. 5 starts for them. They took a lot of pictures of the group and individuals for us which helped lessen the burden of figurine the best Picture moment - A plus on sound that- pictures were sent on reservation email. The dinner stop before kayaking had great food and drinks at the marina. They also have a game area with a beautiful view to relax after dinner before the next adventure. The kayaking part was second. Super well organized for a large group of inexperienced kayakers. Kept every safe and worked around the full moon, night bright sky to make the experience better. There are plenty of kayaker guides to help everyone. High recommend doing this 2 activity- adventure!
