O rio Hooghly ao norte de Calcutá tem uma história convincente. O Palácio Dupleix é um ótimo lugar para começar a ter uma ideia do legado francês de Chandanpur. Hoje o Palácio Dupleix é um museu e estão expostos canhões usados nas guerras Carnáticas, artefatos e móveis dos governadores-gerais franceses e inúmeras outras relíquias.
Visitamos uma bela mansão parcialmente submersa no rio Hooghly. Patal Bari significa literalmente a casa subterrânea. Duas características marcantes desta Mansão são os guarda-sóis de madeira lindamente esculpidos e as saídas de água. Durante seus dias de apogeu, visitantes importantes de Chandan Nagar costumavam enfeitar esta casa, Rabindranath Tagore, o poeta nacional, e Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, para citar alguns.
The Strand possui a melhor coleção de edifícios coloniais. O destaque do Stand é o Durgacharan Rakshit Ghat, um pavilhão incrivelmente bonito adornado com colunas imponentes e impressionantes trabalhos de estuque construído em homenagem a Durgacharan, ganhador da Legião de Honra da França. Construído na década de 1920 em homenagem a Durgacharan Rakshit. O elegante pavilhão é composto por colunas delgadas com trabalhos decorativos em estuque que consistem em cabeças de elefante e desenhos florais.
Esta é uma igreja de dois andares com torres gêmeas e uma magnífica estátua de Jesus. Construída em 1884, os destaques desta igreja são os belos vitrais, e os relevos coloridos de Jesus carregando a cruz nas paredes.
A Igreja foi construída em 1660 e é dedicada a Nostra Senhora di Rozario, popularmente conhecida como Nossa Senhora do Rosário. As flores violetas entre as lápides vintage acrescentam uma aparência pitoresca ao ambiente. A estátua mais comovente do complexo é a da Mãe das Dores em mármore, sentada com o corpo de Jesus morto no colo. É um arrancador de lágrimas
O Rajbari é uma grande mansão da família Goswami, a mais rica da história de Serampore. Eles foram convidados pelo Rei de Gaur para se estabelecerem em Bengala e construirem um negócio em condições muito favoráveis. Construída em 1820, esta mansão já foi a residência mais opulenta do bairro.
No século 19, Serampore era famosa por suas grandes instituições de ensino. William Carey fundou o Serampore College, a primeira universidade de Bengala. Samachar Darpan, o primeiro jornal bengali, foi publicado em 23 de maio de 1818 pela Baptist Mission Press localizada aqui.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. My guide was excellent; friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining 😃. I thought I had a reasonable grasp of European history in India but I learnt a lot, without feeling I was on an education tour. All in all a fascinating and enjoyable day 👍
The slice of Europe was a revelation. We had a lovely time exploring the former colonial centres of Serampore, Bandel and Chandannagar. We saw amazing buildings and our guide helped us appreciate the legacy of French, Danish and Portuguese in Bengal. Ab outstanding experience.

I enjoyed the tour. If you are interested in the history of India and Bengal, you can really appreciate it. I was especially interested in "the Danish Tavern." It is also a good opportunity to visit places outside Kolkata and enjoy local food and sweets. The guide has extensive knowledge of Bengal's history and culture. The driver was excellent.
This is not a day trip for everyone. It is truly to the crumbling ruins of a forgotten colonial past. But if you’re the kind of person that nerds out on that stuff, this trip was awesome! Anirban was a great and knowledgeable host, eating lunch with him over his explanation of Bengali culture was a particular highlight. I was extremely glad I took the tour, 5/5 would recommend.

It’s amazing, but it’s for a very specific clientele. If you’re ready to nerd out on the European history of the Hooghly, this tour is absolutely for you. If not, hard pass, you’ll be bored out of you mind. Anirban is an excellent guide, and O really enjoyed his insight on Bengali culture over the included lunch, which was delicious and perfectly spicy.

The guide and driver were very nice and professional. However, there is hardly anything to see. The trip was boring and unexciting. The roads were dirty and congested with no real sight to see. However, that was no fault of the driver or the guide

The slice of Europe is a fascinating tour of colonial Bengal. Our guide Anirban was wonderful and helped us understand the impact of the various European powers on Bengal. There were fascinating monuments designed in European style and we also had a lovely local Bengali lunch. Highly recommened.
