Quick trip from west part of Belize. Active archaeological site , neat history and structures. Knowledgeable guide.
Regge was great about providing history, while also giving time to explore the ruins. The visit allowed us to see everything we wanted to see. Crowds were limited other than one temple at the very end, but our guide got us up before the crowd descended. Walter also made it easy to get through the boarder crossing.
Excellent day trip after a little messing about at the Belize border. William, our guide, was great. Giving us what we needed to know, but leaving the details to answering follow up questions. The tour was well paced and very interesting and the lunch afterwards at an excellent restaurant just outside of Tikal.
We did this tour from San Ignacio. Maya Walk Tours did a excellent job getting us to the border. The border crossing went very smooth. One driver took us to the Guatemalan border crossing where another the tour guide and driver picked us up. Border crossing can be confusing and challenging, but Maya Walk Tours did an amazing job coordinating the crossing and passing us off to the tour provider on the Guatemala side of the border. Our tour guide Rony, was super knowledgeable and did a excellent job walking us through the Tikal ruins. It was well coordinated with enough time at each of the Mayan ruin sites to hike/climb/walk to get to the top of Ruins. Rony's passion for the ruins and knowledge was very evident as he explained each Mayan ruin we stopped at. Rony was also very knowledgeable on the different type of birds we saw, always on the lookout for different bird species. For those birders out there he would be an excellent tour guide.
The Tikal tour overall was great. We started our morning driving to the border where we passed customs and immigration, and went into another tour guide‘s hands. drive in Guatemala is a little rough due to road conditions, but it is a very pretty drive. Getting to Tikal there are a lot of pathways and our tour guide, Danny took us through some cool trails as to give us a little bit more of the history of the site. We climbed multiple structures, and Danny was very knowledgeable about the history of the Mayan civilization and specifically Tikal. He gave us plenty of time to explore on our own and afterwards we went to a local restaurant to eat a very scrumptious meal. The drive back again was a little rough, but we were all very tired from such an exhausting hike that most of us slept. Passing immigration going back into Belize was a breeze and the only downside was our driver from Maya walk tours being 30 minutes late. In the future, I would probably opt for a smaller family owned company to take us on this tour as maya walk is the largest in the area and they are honestly a glorified taxi service. Will probably not use them in the future.
A fascinating place and Maya Walk organized a great trip. Our guide was knowledgeable. Everything, including the border crossing, went smoothly.
We had a wonderful day at Tikal Maya Ruins. Miguel was a terrific guide, very friendly and knowledgeable. He was very passionate when describing the story behind each temple. We did not feel rushed to end the tour and enjoyed every moment of it. Amazing journey!
We had an amazing day at Tikal. Our guide Phillip was knowledgeable and accommodating. The experience was seamless from pickup to drop off.
For the Tikal site I would give 5 stars but for the guide, minus 2! A fascinating place but a guide with no interest in giving visitors a good experience. Most unfriendly. Gave minimum of information. Was always walking way ahead of the visitors that he was supposed to be taking around. He did have plenty of time for chatting with other guides though! Maya Walk Tours was helpful with organising a pick up from my accommodation. It was costly and it was a very early start for me due to my location but I was keen to see Tikal, so was happy they could do it. The drive to the border didn't take long. Both Belizian and Guatemalan immigration were quick for the two people who were doing the tour. However, there were two others in the vehicle who were just having a transfer from Belize to Guatemala and they took a while at the border. I asked about a toilet whilst on the Belize side but the driver said it's on the Guatemalan side. When I got to that side I was told it's on the Belize side!! They did take me to a service station though. It was a long and winding road from the border to Tikal. There was a stop along the way which seemed to be a breakfast stop for the Guatemalan driver and guide! There was also a delay with the two people doing just a transfer because they were trying to get entry tickets online for Tikal. The lunch was 'ok' but in a rather shabby looking restaurant. The two of us doing the tour were the only customers. At the end of the trip, the Belizian driver dropped me off near the Maya Walk office saying someone else would take me the rest of the way to my accommodation. After walking over to the office it turned out this same driver was supposed to take me all the way. So I had to wait a bit for him to return. Although it was not a long wait, it had been a tiring day. My tour of Caracol with Maya Walk Tours was great but I can't say the same for Tikal.
A great tour; we truly enjoyed it. Danny, our guide was great. The village itself was spectacular, and the views from the tops of the temples were breathtaking. Highly recommend.
