Me and my friend had booked two weeks eastern Bhutan tour, as we were interested to see Brokpas, the indigenous people of Bhutan & and have some off beaten experience . To reach there we had to travel from West to East of Bhutan as Bhutan has just one International Airport at Paro which is at one end of West of Bhutan. We visited in spring, and trust me this is the best time to visit Bhutan. The drive to Eastern Bhutan is long but the drive through forest filled with Rhododendron in riots of color is something else to witness. We also have to drive through heart of Thrumsingla National park from Bumthang and the drive through the forest of ferns, rhododendrons with no settlement in between- was surreal. Occasionally we were greeted by yaks, we also saw some wild pheasant including Tragopoen which was spotted by our guide. Mongar is one place the bird lovers should not miss Along the way we had to pass through many small towns like Punakha, Bomthang, Mongar and all has its beauty of their own. We stopped at these places for one or 2 night for some short hikes and cultural sightseeing There were lot of hotel for us to choose while in Western Bhutan but as we move to Eastern Bhutan the hotel options are less, as many tourist limit their visit till western Bhutan. And at Sakten and Merak , there are no tourist hotel and we were accommodated at homestay. It was perhaps the most tranquil vacation that we had. Visiting these places took us back in time. We were welcomed with some tradition of wine offering, modernism had not reached this place. The people there still wear colourful unique dress , move in slow pace , has houses made of stones . Even in May Merak and Sakten was cold so it is good to prepare yourself with some warm clothes. And also the road to these places was recently introduced otherwise people had to hike for days to reach these places If you are looking for luxury tour Eastern Bhutan tour is not recommended as they do not have even a single 5* hotels but if you are looking for something authentic, something out of the busy world , some time to reflect upon oneself then Eastern Bhutan tour is something you should not miss. Personally this was what I was looking for in a vacation and I am grateful with Bhutan Inbound team as a whole for giving me this inexplicable experience. Thank you!
