This was a fascinating and huge museum-really a floating city. I appreciated the volunteers/workers sharing their knowledge and experience. We could have stayed longer!
This ship is unbelievable. Everyone visiting San Diego needs to experience this immense ship. The volunteers were incredible.
This was truly a one of a kind museum!! The history and education of what it was like to live/work on the USS Midway gave a glimpse of what our heros experienced. It is a floating city. Well worth it. We spent at least 5 hours exploring.
So much history. Wonderful time. Will be back. My husband and I enjoyed it so much. Thank you. From Karen and Gary.
Such a neat place. We could’ve spent all day. A lot of Navy and war history. All of the staff and volunteers are veterans and have way more information than what was posted. Every corner you turn, there’s someone else to talk to! Don’t go down below if you’re claustrophobic. The little movie near the entrance was great. May not be suitable for very young children. Prepare to walk, climb and go through lots of tunnels. It gets very hot too.
Plan on 3-4 hours. Parking can be limited so you may have to park a block away. Ship is amazing with simulators and exhibits. Upper deck tour is very cool. Simulators are extra, but is very worth it. VR experience not so much. Very rare planes specific to the midway, including president Bush’s war plane.
Excellent! We went partly self-guided and partly guide-led. The layout, exhibits, staff, were all very impressive. The staff were mostly (all?) veterans and very knowledgeable without getting ‘in your face’. The audio tour had lots of anecdotal snippets that gave life to the commentary. It’s big and there’s a lot to see, so I suggest 3 hours as a guideline.
We had the best time visiting the USS Midway today! It is a must-see for any aviation or military enthusiasts, and is an incredible piece of history. We especially enjoyed the film that told about the battle of Midway, for which the aircraft carrier is named. We also enjoyed the free personal handheld audio tour, which allows the visitors to get the backstory on many of the aircraft and exhibits on display. All of the docents and volunteers on the ship are friendly, helpful, and well informed. Our group included kids (11, 5, and 2 years old), and 4 adults, one of whom was in a wheelchair. We highly recommend seeing this living, breathing piece of history!!
This was a fabulous tour. Once onboard, we were greeted by a volunteer who had served on her. He explained all the different aspects of the ship and recommended which areas were a must see. We watched the short movie before setting out on the self-guided tour. We had a great time and saw it all. Note - there are lots of small spaces so keep that in mind if you have an issue with claustrophobia.
Excellent the tour guides are ex service personnel that worked and lived in the Middway
