A fantastic experience visiting the USS MIDWAY. See how this aircraft carrier with its brave men and woman worked and kept us safe. They have a lot of former military folks on board to answer all your questions. A must when visiting San Diego
I was fantastic, so well organised! But please allow a minimum of 3 hours to do the tour, the ship is so so big it requires this amount of time as a minimum!
The USS Midway Museum was, without question, one of the absolute highlights of our trip to San Diego. We spent four hours exploring on our own, at our own pace, and I honestly could have stayed even longer! Walking through the different levels (and steep ladder wells) of this massive aircraft carrier was fascinating. From the sailors’ living and working spaces to the countless displays, we found ourselves trying to imagine what everyday life must have been like for the thousands of sailors who once called this ship home. We especially loved the audio tour lanyards, which allowed us to scan different areas and listen to stories and information as we explored at our own pace. But what truly made the experience special were the veterans volunteering throughout the museum. We had some wonderful conversations with them, hearing not only about the ship but also their own memories and experiences serving aboard aircraft carriers and sailing missions. Their stories brought the Midway to life in a way no display ever could. What an incredible gift it is to have them there sharing their time, knowledge, and history with visitors. The flight deck is AMAZING! Seeing all of the different aircraft while standing on top of this enormous ship overlooking San Diego Bay really puts its size into perspective. On a warm San Diego day, the snack bar also provided a very welcome break before we continued exploring. Our favorite experience was the guided tour of the island/tower. We waited only about 10 minutes, and the approximately 30-minute guided tour was absolutely worth it. Getting to see the bridge, learn how the ship was commanded, and explore the areas where the admiral and officers worked was fascinating. **Do not skip this part!** It was easily our favorite part of the entire visit. Pictures simply cannot prepare you for the sheer size of the USS Midway. Standing on it, walking through it, climbing its ladders and stairways, and realizing how many people lived and worked aboard this vessel left me in absolute awe. If you are visiting San Diego, put the USS Midway Museum at the top of your list and give yourself several hours to explore it. This isn’t just a museum you walk through—it’s an experience that gives you an incredible appreciation for the ship, its history, and most importantly, the sailors who served aboard her. Five stars aren’t enough. 🇺🇸⚓️ An unforgettable experience!
Good time. Very informative. Had fun
Really cool tour of an older aircraft carrier. Plenty to see and do. Lots of very knowledgeable staff members around to answer any questions.
This was a fascinating and huge museum-really a floating city. I appreciated the volunteers/workers sharing their knowledge and experience. We could have stayed longer!
This ship is unbelievable. Everyone visiting San Diego needs to experience this immense ship. The volunteers were incredible.
This was truly a one of a kind museum!! The history and education of what it was like to live/work on the USS Midway gave a glimpse of what our heros experienced. It is a floating city. Well worth it. We spent at least 5 hours exploring.
So much history. Wonderful time. Will be back. My husband and I enjoyed it so much. Thank you. From Karen and Gary.
Such a neat place. We could’ve spent all day. A lot of Navy and war history. All of the staff and volunteers are veterans and have way more information than what was posted. Every corner you turn, there’s someone else to talk to! Don’t go down below if you’re claustrophobic. The little movie near the entrance was great. May not be suitable for very young children. Prepare to walk, climb and go through lots of tunnels. It gets very hot too.
