Echmiatsin é o centro sagrado da Igreja Apostólica Armênia, a igreja mais antiga do mundo construída pelo Estado. Aqui todos podem visitar o museu “Tesouros de Echmiatsin” para ver a Lança Sagrada (Lança), relíquias pertencentes aos Apóstolos de Jesus e João Batista, e um fragmento da Arca de Noé. A Igreja de Saint Hripsime é uma igreja apostólica armênia do século VII. A igreja foi construída por Catholicos Komitas sobre os restos mortais do mártir Santo Hripsime a quem a igreja é dedicada. A Igreja de Saint Gayane é uma igreja armênia do século VII localizada novamente em Etchmiadzin. St. Gayane foi construída por Catholicos Ezra I em 630. Esta igreja é dedicada à abadessa Gayane e foi construída no local onde santa Gayane foi torturada. O templo de Zvartnots, construído no século VII perto de Ejmiatsin, é um monumento notável da arquitetura mundial. Em 2000, Zvartnots, juntamente com as igrejas de St. Hripsimeh, St. Gayaneh e a Catedral Mãe em Echmiadzin, foi declarada Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO.

The friendly driver Dikran picked me up on time. He showed me around the places visited, and shared some stories about Armenia. The only thing that I may not be happy was I had to pay two tickets to get in Zvartnots Cathedral as the driver had to drive inside the site.

Even though the museum was closed during my visit, Dikram was an amazing guide. As a Roman Catholic, Dikram gave me an understanding of how the nation of Armenia became the first Christian nation and also gave me tours of other churches. I highly recommend this tour, and thanks to Arevik for contacting me a day before the tour. Without Dikram, my tour guide, I wouldn’t have been able to visit these sites. 😊
