A wonderful wine and a wonderful time!

Wow -- what an experience! Our host for this Chianti wine tasting - Francesco, was incredible. He was engaging, super relaxed and friendly, and very informative. The tasting offered samplings across 8 bottlings. Progressing from one vintage to another, we were introduced to a broad range of Montemaggio wines. Their Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Montemaggio Gallo Nero was spectacular! This was a great way to spend a morning enjoying the Chianti countryside and learning what makes the wine and olive oil of this region so special! I highly recommend this tour!

A truly special Chianti Classico experience

Fattoria di Montemaggio was one of the highlights of our time in Radda. This is not a massive, commercial winery experience. It is intimate, thoughtful, and deeply connected to the land. Producing around 20,000 bottles annually, Montemaggio feels personal in the best possible way: small enough that every detail matters, but serious enough that the wines are exceptional. From the start, Francesco made the visit memorable. He was knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate, taking his time to explain everything without ever making the experience feel rushed or rehearsed. We learned so much about what separates Chianti Classico from broader Chianti wines, the importance of harvest windows, and the winery’s organic, nature-first approach to protecting the grapes while respecting the soil, insects, and surrounding ecosystem. You can feel that they care not only about making great wine, but about preserving the history and integrity of the land. And the wines were incredible! The Chianti Classico was stellar, and the Riserva took it even further. But the Emma bottle absolutely stopped us in our tracks: beautiful red fruit, raspberry jam, baking spices, and a subtle minerality that made it both elegant and juicy. It was one of those Sangiovese wines you keep thinking about after the tasting ends. We loved it so much we bought a dozen bottles. The setting and format made the whole experience even better. Our blind tasting was relaxed, casual, and fun, and we ended up meeting a fantastic couple along the way. Swapping stories about the USA, Canada, and Italy made the visit feel less like a scheduled tasting and more like an afternoon with new friends. If you are looking for something authentic, tucked into the hills of Radda, with exceptional wines and a warm, family-like atmosphere, Fattoria di Montemaggio is absolutely worth visiting. Raw, real, informative, and deeply satisfying. A beautifully done experience from start to finish.

Unforgettable Experience and Amazing Wines

It's rare to meet someone as knowledgeable and as passionate for their craft as Francesco is. He provided so much insight and education about the wine making process, and highlighted the importance and uniqueness of the Chianti Region. This was an amazing experience and wonderful wine tasting, and one you should not miss. All of the wines were unique and excellent, and Francesco did a wonderful job of showcasing the subtleties of each wine and style. If you are visiting Tuscany you should visit Fattoria Di Montemaggiore.

Our Favorite Wine Tour

This organic winery tour is the ultimate experience, as it showcases the family's personal connection with the land and the methods they use to create incredible Chianti Classico wine. Francesco, our guide and sommelier, was very personable and intimately knowledgeable of the wine making process. A special bonus -- the vineyard's truffle dogs, Birra and IPA. One of our favorite wine tours ever. Highly recommend.

Unforgettable Wine Experience in the Heart of Chianti

We had an absolutely unforgettable wine tour and tasting at Fattoria di Montemaggio. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. Our host, Francesco, made the experience truly special. He’s worked at the winery for 11 years and his passion for winemaking shines through in every word. With deep roots in viticulture—his grandfather owned a different winery—Francesco grew up helping on the farm and learning firsthand about the grapes, the land, and the history of Chianti Classico. His knowledge was impressive, and you could tell he genuinely cared about the craft and tradition behind each bottle. I even found myself taking notes because he shared so much interesting insight into how to taste and understand wine. We learned about color, smell, tannins, and even the effect of grape size on flavor—it was like a mini wine masterclass. The wines themselves were spectacular—complex, smooth, and full of character. As a boutique winery, Montemaggio doesn’t mass-produce; they focus on quality and it shows. Each wine felt exclusive and thoughtfully made. We also enjoyed local cheese and homemade bread, which paired perfectly with the wines and added to the authentic Tuscan experience. This was one of the highlights of our Italy trip. If you’re looking for a genuine, educational, and delicious wine tasting experience in Chianti with a passionate and knowledgeable host—this is it. Grazie mille, Francesco and Montemaggio team!

Informative and passionate host

Francesco was an interesting and informative host. The surroundings are lovely and any business working organically and towards sustainability gets a big tick. The road to the venue was a shock, very, very rough, unsealed, potholes, winding and narrow. The thought of having to go back over that road dampened our enthusiasm for tasting the wine, although the tasting presentation was knowledgeable and generous.
