We traveled from California to attend our nephew’s destination wedding at Fateh Garh in Udaipur. We arrived on January 16th and hired an incredible local driver, Rakesh Sharma (+91 9829407616), who picked us up at Udaipur airport and stayed with us throughout our journey, showcasing the beauty of Rajasthan. On our first two days (January 16th and 17th), we explored Udaipur and did some shopping. The local tailors worked efficiently, getting our wedding outfits ready in two days or less. We stayed at Hotel Sarovar in downtown Udaipur, near the lake. The hotel offered breathtaking views, a lovely rooftop restaurant, and exceptionally friendly staff. While it was initially inconvenient since cars couldn’t reach the hotel, three-wheelers made luggage transport easy. We also visited the famous Jagdish Temple and strolled through the old city to experience the authentic charm of Rajasthan. On January 18th, we traveled to Mount Abu and stayed at Hotel Sterling, enjoying a relaxing vacation until January 20th. We then returned to Udaipur for the next three days to celebrate the wedding festivities at Hotel Fateh Garh. On January 23rd, we headed to Jodhpur, stopping along the way to visit a massive Lord Shiva statue. Jodhpur stood out as a cleaner and well-maintained city compared to others. We stayed at Jhankar Haveli for one night—a stunning heritage hotel nestled in the heart of the city, offering spectacular views of Mehrangarh Fort. The experience was unforgettable, and I wished we had another day to explore Jodhpur further. Our next stop was Jaisalmer, where we planned a two-night stay. We went on a desert safari, rode camels, and explored the sand dunes. The desert wasn’t quite what we had envisioned—it was much smaller than expected—but we still enjoyed the traditional dance performances at night and the unique experience of staying in a desert camp. For our final night in Jaisalmer, we stayed at Hotel Gulal, a newly built, modern, and beautifully designed hotel. The next day, we flew back to Delhi, wrapping up an incredible journey through Rajasthan filled with unforgettable memories.
