Corona é o epicentro culinário da comunidade latino-americana de Nova York, um lugar onde você pode encontrar especialidades regionais que vão desde a Terra do Fogo até a fronteira norte do México com os Estados Unidos. Neste passeio pelos fundamentos culinários de Corona, saímos às ruas num sábado, quando as grelhas e grelhadores deste bairro já animado estão a fazer horas extraordinárias e os vendedores ambulantes saem com força total. Começando no Corona Plaza, passaremos por uma padaria mexicana familiar para saborear doces doces no café da manhã. De lá, continuaremos até um local afastado, onde nos sentaremos com as famílias da vizinhança para desfrutar de um farto brunch de cabra assada ao estilo mexicano. Continuaremos pela Avenida Roosevelt, passando por vendedores ambulantes, uma padaria argentina e fazendo uma parada para um “cholado”. Terminaremos o dia em uma pequena bodega. Esta última parada nos deixa nos limites de Jackson Heights e Elmhurst, tendo experimentado o que faz do Queens uma Terra Prometida culinária.

Começaremos o dia na Corona Plaza, apenas para pedestres, o movimentado ponto de encontro do bairro, e passaremos por uma padaria mexicana de gerência familiar, onde participaremos do ritual de fim de semana de escolher doces e pãezinhos para o café da manhã em grandes bandejas preparadas para os clientes. De lá, continuaremos até um local afastado, onde nos sentaremos com as famílias da vizinhança para desfrutar de um farto brunch de cabra assada ao estilo mexicano.
Nosso passeio gastronômico no Queens continua pela Avenida Roosevelt, que nos finais de semana fica repleta de vendedores ambulantes de toda a América Latina. Para satisfazer nossa vontade de comer doces, iremos a uma padaria argentina para comer algumas delícias tradicionais e faremos uma parada para um “cholado”, uma sobremesa híbrida congelada e salada de frutas, também conhecida como Cone de Neve Colombiano. Terminaremos o dia em uma pequena bodega aberta por um homem de Veracruz, no México, entrando para um coquetel comemorativo (de camarão). Esta última parada nos deixa nos limites de Jackson Heights e Elmhurst, dois bairros de imigrantes que possuem suas próprias riquezas culinárias (e que são mais exploradas como parte de nossa caminhada mais longa pelo Queens), um lembrete tentador de que durante este meio dia nós apenas arranhou a superfície do que torna o Queens uma Terra Prometida culinária.
