We had a wonderful trip to Machu Picchu thanks to our guide Samuel who is very knowledgable about Machu Picchu and filled us with many details we did not know much about this Inca archaeological site from other sources. He is also a savvy hiker who had explored Machu Picchu from different routes over the years including the trek to Wayna Picchu! Thank you Sam for making our dream trip to Machu Picchu even more memorable!
We used Yapa Explorers to book our journey from Cusco to Agua Calientes with a stop in the Sacred Valley on the way. Yapa Explorers also arranged the guide for our morning circuit at Machu Picchu and our private guide for our afternoon circuit. Our guide was Samuel for both tours, he was fantastic! We wanted to learn as much as we could about Machu Picchu and the Inca People. Samuel was very knowledgeable and answered every question we had. He was very kind and aware that we needed to pace ourselves while climbing so many stairs. We’d rest, (always in the shade) while he’d educate us about the different areas of Machu Picchu. It was a warm sunny day with no coats needed and not too hot, although the shade was certainly enjoyed when we’d catch our breath. Thank you to Taoa and Samuel for making this bucket list trip an incredible experience!
What a great experience! Bucket list trip. The tour was well organized with Yapa Tours and my guide Samuel at Machu Picchu was great, he provided lots of knowledge and insight. I am grateful for that.
Yapas were informative and communicated well when booking. However, as Machu Picchu tickets had sold out communication about how many nights to stay in Aguas Calientes got a bit confusing. The guy doing the briefing in Cusco wasn't very clear either and in Aguas Calientes they informed us the briefing for Machu Picchu was 7.30pm when in fact it was 7pm and the guide was ringing us to find out where we were! Despite this both guides we had for the tours were amazing. Firstly, Jose for the Sacred Valley Tour spoke great English and kept everyone engaged throughout. He was also very helpful and made sure we knew our way to the train station. We had Samuel for our Machu Picchu tour who was really good, he did a briefing the night before and we met him on time the next day. He was very informative throughout, answered all our questions, let us take our time going round and took great pictures too!
Hi Sophie, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed your tours and that Jose and Samuel made your experiences in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu so enjoyable. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with them. We understand that the information about the possibility of an additional night in Aguas Calientes could have been clearer. During high season, an additional night may sometimes be needed depending on ticket and train availability, and this possibility was explained during your trip. We appreciate your feedback and will work on making these arrangements clearer and easier to follow for our passengers. We also apologize for the confusion regarding the Machu Picchu briefing time. Receiving different information can certainly be frustrating, and we have shared this with our Operations team to help improve coordination between our team, guides, and passengers. Thank you again for travelling with Yapa Explorers and for sharing both the highlights of your experience and the areas where we can continue to improve. Best regards, Yapa Explorers
We just completed an amazing 2-day tour of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, and we couldn't be happier! Both of our guides were absolutely fantastic. On the first day in the Sacred Valley, our guide Marcelo was excellent, taking great care of us and sharing wonderful insights. For our second day at Machu Picchu, Samuel took over and he was exceptional. He was perfectly on time and created a warm, family-like atmosphere. Before entering the site, we sat together in a circle while he shared fascinating stories, unique local knowledge, and historical photos that truly brought the ruins to life. He has a real gift for teaching in an engaging, personal way. We were blessed with gorgeous weather, but it was Marcelo and Samuel who made this 2-day trip so perfect and fun for our group. Highly recommend!
Marcelo truly made this tour a great experience. He was punctual, kept the group on schedule, and explained the history and where to go clearly. He also gave us flexibility, welcomed questions, and took the time to answer them thoughtfully. We enjoyed the tour, but Marcelo’s care and attention were what made it especially worthwhile. Highly recommend!
Samuel Flores's Machu Picchu tour was wonderfully informative. He guided us with a calm, polite, and unhurried demeanor while sharing his deep expertise.
I did the two-day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu combo with Yapa Explorers in August as a solo traveller. An excellent tour. I learned a huge amount, met great people, and the two guides were the reason it was as good as it was. Day one in the Sacred Valley was a group of five with Edgar. He is a genuinely brilliant storyteller. His passion for the history is obvious within about thirty seconds, and he brought every site to life rather than reciting dates at us. Funny, engaging, and a real pleasure to spend a day with. A fantastic guide. Day two at Machu Picchu was just me and Samuel. Kind, patient, a little quiet at first, and then completely won me over. He picked me up from my hotel, walked me onto the bus, and made a 6am start feel effortless. As much as I hated the idea of 6am when I booked it, it is absolutely the right time to go. They had warned us the day before that it could be rainy or foggy. What actually happened was better than either. The fog sat over everything, then it lifted, the sun came up, and Machu Picchu kept appearing and disappearing through the cloud all morning. Genuinely mystical. Samuel took his time explaining the history of the site properly, and he knew exactly where to stand for photos, away from the overly touristy spots. The pictures he took of me are some of the best I have from the entire trip. That kind of thoughtfulness is not something you can put in a brochure. On the company: Yapa Explorers are extremely responsive on WhatsApp, before and during the trip. I found them through an AI recommendation while planning and took a chance on them. It was an excellent recommendation. Two pieces of constructive feedback: The briefings. They asked us into the office the day before the tour, and then wanted to meet again the evening before day two. I am a very experienced traveller and did not need either. Make them optional. The timings. There is a lot of dead time built in. On Saturday we somehow ran ahead of schedule and I sat at a train station for two hours, when I could simply have left two hours later that morning. On Sunday I had five hours of free time in Aguas Calientes, and Aguas Calientes is not the nicest or most fun town. Luckily I had a 90 minute massage and also enjoyed a lovely breakfast and lunch. Tightening the schedule would make a great trip even better. None of that would stop me recommending Yapa. Ask for Edgar or Samuel if you can.
From the very beginning, our guide, Marcelo, made us feel comfortable with his friendly way to present things. During the visits of the sites Pisaq and Ollantaytambo, he explained everything very clearly and made proof not only of his knowledge by the good answers to our questions, but also of his good humor when he accompanied us to the excellent lunch restaurant. On the second day, Samuel was our guide for the visit of Machu Picchu. This magic site well deserves guides like him, who presented us the site with passion, background information, profound knowledge and reflection about Andean and other ancient cultures. Machu Picchu came back alive for us! Very positive, too, the good mix between guided tour and self exploration of the sites, perfect timings and organization, likely to be attributed to Yapa Explorers in general. Thank you, we will always recommend you!
