A great way to see the islands!

This bike ride with Jorge was a wonderful way to experience the Toronto Islands. I am glad we went in the morning because we saw the crowd waiting to board the ferry when we returned to the mainland. Jorge was a great guide. He created a relaxed environment but you always knew he was keeping an eye on safety and our well being. He made learning about the islands fun!

Fabulous guide in a great spot

Our guide Brian was excellent. He knew a lot about the city and was an excellent guide for a group of bikers. The Toronto Islands are fantastic and I recommend everyone to travel to them for a different perspective of Toronto!

Saturday Morning Island Bike Ride

This was just right for less experienced bike riders. Mariana and Mariana ensured we all made it safely.

Chill & interesting

Our guide, Jenny, was so knowledgeable and a great storyteller. And she & the other guide, Mariana, were very safety-conscious. This is a very easy ride (so you’re not getting a lot of exercise), but it was a fun way to spend the morning.

Pain to find starting point, great ride and guide.

Excellent guide, wonderful ride around the islands. Finding the meeting point at P2, zone H of a large car park was painful! On the instructions a photo of the door to the small room where the bikes are kept would be useful. I got there early and couldn’t find it initially, the place was deserted.

Riding thru the island

We met Clara on a floor of the parking garage to start the tour. One thing to mention here is that there are signs to walk down the garage, but there’s not really a walkway - a little unnerving at first being from the states where people don’t really look for pedestrians, but was actually pretty safe. There is another way down thru the nearby mall via elevator as an alternate route as well. After a brief overview, we cycled down to the harbor for the ferry ride - I would say that’s probably the hardest part of the ride if you’re not used to cycling because it’s pretty steep getting out of the garage. Even though some had to get off and walk, Clara waited patiently. Navigating the streets was straightforward and felt safe as well. There was an opportunity to use the restroom both before and after the ferry ride which was maybe 15 min or so long? When we landed on the islands, she began our tour, giving us great background information about the island, stopping at interesting sites, and taking great pictures along the way. She provided snacks and water so it was quite a leisurely ride. Overall it was a great way to see a part of Toronto outside of the normal cityscape!

A Fun Experience

This was a great way to get a taste of Toronto Island. After meeting at the designated spot and testing out our bikes, we biked about 15 minutes to the ferry, where we took a short ride to the islands. Then, with our amazing tour guide, we rode around Toronto Island, stopping every so often to learn interesting history as well as geographical information about the area. We stayed a little under 2 hours before we headed back to the ferry. For anyone unfamiliar with the area, this tour is a good way to get an idea of what Toronto Islands have to offer so that they can visit again on their own in and spend a full day there.

Don’t waste your money

The Islands are gorgeous and seeing them by bike is awesome, but unless you are really dying to learn all the ins and outs of the Toronto Islands, with lots of stopping and getting off your bike, I’d save your money, hop the ferry and grab a city bike on the island…or rent one there. And use Google for what to see. The pick-up point for the tour is deep in a garage a good ways from the ferry. I’m a city rider so no big deal for me but for families with kids or people less accustomed to the traffic it could be a bit much. Overall, way too much uninteresting storytelling…20 minutes at a lighthouse for a 3 minute story, stopping at the gate of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club to talk about its history without actually seeing anything, stopping at a public school to note that were it not summer there would be kids there, and, nearly 90 minutes or so after meeting for our bikes, going through the safety training, riding to the ferry, waiting 30 minutes for the ferry and finally arriving on the Islands, waiting another 10 minutes or so for mandatory selfies and group photos with strangers (nice folks, but still…). Honestly, the whole thing felt designed for a 5th grade class, complete with periodic quizzes along the way to see how well you remembered facts from 10 minutes earlier.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your experience is quite different from the many guests who have enjoyed our Toronto Islands tour, including the reviews posted just before and after yours. That said, I will make a few clarifying points: As you yourself noted, this tour is for those who want to learn the ins and outs of the Toronto Islands. That is exactly what we aim to deliver, and it is what most of our guests tell us they value greatly. The tour is built around guided storytelling: the history of the Islands, the community that lives there, the relationship to the city, and the context behind what you're seeing. We stop where we do because there is something to explain and discuss, not because there is necessarily something to photograph, and our guides pace those stops based on the questions and interest of the group that day. Guides ask guests questions along the way to gauge what they already know, which helps shape how much detail to add on a given topic. The pickup point is in the parking garage at 124 St Patrick Street, a 15 minute ride to the ferry terminal in separated bike lanes. We time our tour to align with the City's ferry schedule. Ferry wait times do vary with the schedule and season, but they are typically much shorter than you've described here. Safety training before any group ride is mandatory for all guests. We are sorry the pace and depth of the tour was not what you were looking for. We're happy to answer questions ahead of time for anyone unsure if this tour suits them.
