The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh

We really enjoyed the comedy walking tour. It was a great mix of humor and interesting local history, making it entertaining and informative. Having a guide with a master’s in Scottish history made it even better. Daniel had a knack for playfully poking fun at everyone in the group, which kept the atmosphere light and had us all laughing. We went as a family, including my 85- and 81-year-old parents. Daniel kindly gave them a few extra minutes to catch up with the group when needed, which we really appreciated. Having Bran the doodle dog on the tour added to the fun. We'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun and memorable way to explore the area.
Take THIS tour - you will not regret it (unless you lack a sense of humour). Daniel combines his passions for history and comedy in this wonderful two hour tour of (old town) Edinburgh. He cleverly combines great story telling, historical and architectural facts and a large amount of banter with those taking the tour. Laugh out loud funny as well as educational. If that wasn't enough, he brings his adorable dog (Bran) with him. A superb way to spend a couple of hours learning about Edinburgh whilst excercising.
What can I say. I was intrigued. Having been to Edinburgh before, it wasn’t my plan to do a walking tour. But Daniel’s Mountebank Comedy Walk on Viator has almost 2,000 five-star reviews. I booked it. Having a degree in Scottish history, Daniel is a treasure trove of information and a super funny guy as well. Be prepared to be properly roasted. He didn’t spare anyone in our group. His dog, Bran, was delightful, and you can tell he enjoys the walk (he works the crowd for pets) as well. Absolutely a MUST when visiting this beautiful city.
We were a group of nine friends celebrating three 70th birthdays so were out for a fun time. Daniel didn't disappoint. He was very funny with sharp. humorous interactions with his audience all the way through the experience addressing everyone by name at all times. His knowledge of Edinburgh was very extensive and we learnt things in a way we would have never known otherwise. Brahan the dog introduced himself to the audience as we stopped in different places. He was so placid and gentle so quite the opposite of our guide. Our experience overran the two hours a little, but there was no rushing by Daniel and he completed our tour ending with a selfie of the entire group. I would highly recommend the experience as would all of my eight friends, it was a Brilliant experience that we didn't stop talking about.
Loved the in your face Scotish humour
Fantastic tour with Daniel today. A history tour with a twist of comedy, a lot of comedy! And so much history. The group size of around 12 was large enough for Daniel to engage with everyone throughout the 2 hour walk. Who knew you could mix a Masters in Scottish history with stand up Scottish humour. Done brilliantly. Chris and Peter, Melbourne
We had a great time on the comedy tour through old town Edinburgh with our hilarious guide Daniel and his (very) cute dog. The tour was funny, entertaining and had lots of lesser known information about the city and its cultural history. Daniel has a very scotish sense of humor and engages with his audience with a lot of charisma. But he is also incredibly informed and can answer all your questions about whatever buildings, statues and places you walk along on your tour. 10/10 would do it again :)
Daniel and his dog provided a delightful entertaining and educational walk through old town Edinburgh pointing out some of the more important historical places and events in the town. We enjoyed the lighthearted recounting. Definitely not G rated, so make sure all are 16 or older.
This tour was one of the highlights of our time in Edinburgh. Daniel is equal parts hilarious and very knowledge about Scottish history. I travelled with my mom who didn't realize it was a comedy tour and she LOVED it! Some of your experience does depend on your group. We happened to be with a more reserved group, so Daniel did not always get the laughs he deserved. I 100% recommend doing this tour, it's truly a wonderful time. Also Bran (the dog) was such a wonderful addition to the tour. He loves people and was always coming up to everyone in the group for pets.
If you’re looking for an Edinburgh experience that goes far beyond the typical tourist tour, Daniel the Mountebank’s Comedy Walk is an absolute must. Daniel masterfully combines an incredible depth of local knowledge, Scottish history, and nonstop humor into a truly unforgettable experience. He took us to fascinating spots and hidden gems that only a local would know, bringing Edinburgh’s stories and characters to life with infectious Scottish enthusiasm. What sets Daniel apart is his ability to educate and entertain at the same time. His storytelling is engaging, his historical knowledge is impressive, and his comedic timing is flawless. Every stop along the walk was filled with interesting facts, fascinating history, and plenty of laughs. You can tell Daniel genuinely loves Edinburgh and enjoys sharing its secrets with visitors while they fall in love with Bran his beloved dog. The tour never felt scripted or rushed—it felt like spending time with an exceptionally knowledgeable friend who happens to be one of the funniest people in the city. Whether it’s your first visit to Edinburgh or your tenth, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation of the city, a list of places to revisit, and a smile on your face. Highly recommended and worth every minute!
