Suchitoto exceeded every expectation. This gem of a colonial city paired with the ancient energy of the Mayan ruins creates an experience that is equal parts beautiful, historical, and deeply moving. Walking through spaces that ancient civilizations called home, feeling the weight and wisdom of that history beneath your feet, is something that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else. What made this experience truly exceptional was our tour guide, Alfredo. Absolutely the best. His knowledge of the history and culture was comprehensive, detailed, and delivered with a genuine passion that made every site come alive. He didn't just share facts, he told stories that connected you to the people who walked these lands long before us. Informative, engaging, and always present, Alfredo made sure our group was safe throughout the entire journey without ever making it feel restrictive. If you are visiting El Salvador and you absolutely should, do yourself a favor and book Alfredo. He is the kind of guide who transforms a good trip into an unforgettable one. El Salvador is a hidden treasure. Suchitoto is its crown jewel. And Alfredo is the key that unlocks all of it.
We had a wonderful day exploring Suchitoto and Lake Ilopango with Gerson as our guide. From the moment we met him, he was friendly, personable, and easy to spend the day with. Gerson shared a lot of interesting history about Suchitoto and helped bring the town to life with stories and local context that we would have otherwise missed. He also made sure we stopped at the best viewpoints, took photos for us, and helped us appreciate the beauty of the area. As a food lover, we especially appreciated all of his recommendations. He pointed us toward great local restaurants and made sure we experienced some of the best food the region has to offer, including a fantastic lunch at Casa 1800. We also enjoyed learning about Lake Ilopango, its history, and the recent efforts to revitalize and improve the area. Throughout the day, Gerson shared local insights, upcoming events, and recommendations that helped us get even more out of our time in El Salvador. Gerson was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and genuinely enjoyable to spend the day with. We highly recommend this tour and Gerson for anyone visiting El Salvador.
Great guide, driver, and experience. See it for yourself!! The lake was amazing, the town was nice..
What a beautiful town. Casa 1800 was good, but the icing on the cake was Casa Clementine Restaurante New York Cafe y Galería service 10+ coffee great the bread pudding and peach cobbler with ice cream to die for. This place local art meets great food, film and conversations and the view of the lake, the best one, period. @casaclementinasv @newyorkcafesuchi
Very too expensive for what you got. The boat tour on the lake is nice. However Sushitoto visit is very underwhelming. The guide Arely shown me the church and 3 indigo shop and that’s it. I will not recommend this tour except if they had more stops for the money theay ask.
Fantastic experience! Our guide Steffany and driver Sandra were both awesome. We had a boat ride on Ilopango Lake and walked around Suchitoto after eating lunch. Steffany was very well-informed and was a great tour guide, explaining everything about the lake and the history of Suchitoto. Highly recommend!
Great full day tour with Gerson!!! He was kind enough to help with a pupusa making class (he’s a natural) and support us throughout the day!!! Guaranteed great addition to any trip to El Salvador!
The boat trip on IlopangoLake was very nice. We also liked Suchitoto. However, we would have liked a little free time here. We really liked the selected restaurant Case 1800 for lunch. Tour guide and driver were very competent and friendly. Would also book the tour again - despite the long journey back to San Salvador with its evening mega jams.
Our tour guide, Gerson, was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about El Salvador overall and the areas that we went to, was an excellent conversationalist in English, translated for us when talking to anyone we met, and knew a lot of great places to go so that we could have a great time. We really appreciate the tour! It was better than we could have imagined.
After spending most my days hiking, spending a slower paced day at Suchitoto was nice! Drive isn’t too long, the boat ride was nice, the restaurant chosen for lunch had an insanely beautiful view! Wendy was our guide, and she gave us the background of everywhere we visited. The only downside- to NO fault of our guide or tour company- is that the main square in Suchitoto is under heavy construction. Hopefully they finish soon, I’m sure it’s going to look great!
