I’ve done quite a few walking tours in Budapest, but this Art Nouveau tour was something completely different. Instead of the usual history-heavy experience, this felt like stepping into a hidden layer of the city that most people simply walk past without noticing. Our guide brought the buildings to life — not just explaining dates and architects, but showing the stories, symbols, and tiny details you would never spot on your own. After this tour, you genuinely start to see Budapest differently. What I loved most is how interactive and engaging it was. It didn’t feel like a lecture, more like a discovery. Every corner had something surprising — from colorful facades to unexpected interior gems. If you think you’ve already “seen” Budapest, take this tour. You’ll realize you’ve only scratched the surface.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We love hearing that the tour helped you see Budapest from a completely new perspective — that’s exactly our goal. The city is full of hidden details, and we’re glad you enjoyed discovering them with us. If you ever come back, we’d be happy to show you even more of Budapest’s hidden gems 🙂
This was a marvelous introduction to this historic city with dozens of Art Nouveau buildings, which are hiding in plain sight. Our guide Barna was welcoming, passionate and extremely knowledgeable about Art Nouveau. He provided historic context for the each of the properties - hotels, apartment buildings, public buildings, thermal baths, etc. Together we crisscrossed the city, hopping on subways and trams and lots of walking. Wear your most comfortable walking shoes as this is a 3 hour tour and you will truly discover many aspects of Budapest. Before you go, download the Budapest GO transit app to your smartphone, as it’s easy to use. The transit system is clearly marked and a great way to get around Budapest.
guide was great.very articulate, personable. The requirement for more characters in tis message is peculiar. And keeps growing! Enough!
Dear Larry, Thank you. You are right. The six words in which you summed up your appreciation expresses the essence. .
We enjoyed it so much. It‘s so much better to have a guide who knows about the topic and also loves it and not just learned it by heart Thank you so much Miklos Tim and Christine
Dear Tim and Christine, Thank you for your appreciation. The Art Nouveau heritage of Budapest is a real treasure we should keep and protect.
This tour is not to be missed! The other reviews say it better than I can, and they're absolutely right.
What an inventive review! Thanks a lot.
Fungararian is a retired history professor with a wealth of knowledge he enjoys sharing. The tour included use of the Metro and trams (useful as it was our first day in town). This allowed us to visit many of the most glamorous buildings in town and generally got us oriented to the city. We learned the primary features of Art nouveau so I'm sure I'll recognize it in the future. He was very accommodating through the tour and even asked if we wanted to add on an extra 30 minutes to see two additional buildings. The stained glass windows at the end of the tour were spectacular! You will see the city through different eyes after this tour!
So happy about your review. Hungarian Art Nouveau is very special in many ways. Not only the father of architects, Ödön Lechner but his friend Vilmos Zsolnay, the ceramist and Miksa Róth the mosaic stained glass artist contributed a lot to make our city as splendid as it is. I hope you will come back to discover more. Miklós
What a marvelous tour with Miklos! As an architect, I can attest to his breadth and depth of knowledge about not just Hungarian Art Nouveau and Art Deco but the history which influenced what you see today. He led us on a well thought out tour (including the use of public transportation which saved our feet) to see about a dozen buildings. We ended with his warm hospitality at his home to see the outstanding stain glass work of Miksa Roth which survived WWII with his cat modeling for us. Sign up. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you for your wonderful words. My job is easy, just to make the marvellous pieces architecture of the top 20 architects of the late 19th and early 20the century make known to a wider audience. These artists supported by good Budapest city governance left this great city for us which we can't appreciate enough. I am happy I could share some highlights with you. Best, Miklós
This was an excellent tour with a very well informed guide. We saw items of Art Nouveau and learned much more of the history of the city, from this specific tour guide, than we would have otherwise. Our guide was very passionate about the city. We highly recommend.
Dear Nancy, Thank you very much for your positive feedback. Belatedly, all my gratitude for enjoying the tour in spite of the rain. Our city is so rich in culture and changing dynamically that it's worth coming back. I promise sunshine for the next time. :) Miklós
My husband and I enjoyed our 3hr tour with Miklos, focused on Art Nouveau. We learnt a great deal about three key figures in the Hungarian A.N. movement. At a moderate pace, we stopped at about a dozen buildings, to admire and discuss. Miklos graciously welcomed us to his home where he shared his personal glassworks by Miksa Roth. In addition, he answered our many questions about Hungarian history and culture. We loved taking public transport too!
Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I feel it's my mission to popularize the three great artists who made Hungarian Art Nouveau (Sezession) so unique, Ödön Lechner, the architect, Vilmos Zsolnay, the ceramics artist and Miksa Róth, the mosaic stained glass artist. I am glad you appreciated my personalized tour including the building dated back to 1898 with all the wonders of Art Nouveau.
Miklos was an amazing guide! His attention to detail was fantastic and he pointed out things within the city that I have never noticed before (and I visit Budapest often). His materials, such as his maps and pictograms, were incredibly helpful in understanding Hungarys rich history. His explanations were very thorough and he presented the history in a very engaging and interesting manor. Truly an excellent experience and one of the best tours I have ever had the pleasure of going on!
Thank you for your positive evaluation. I appreciate your words praising my efforts to present our very long history in an understable way. Not easy, but challenging. I hope next time we can continue at a point where we finished. You should definitely visit the Memento Park, a scene of history.
