The Seven Lakes trip in Tajikistan is an absolute must-do and can easily be done as a day trip from Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The tour began with a pickup from our hotel in a comfortable 4-seater sedan, which took us to the border near Jizzakh. After completing the immigration process, we met the rest of the group and continued the journey in a spacious and comfortable luxury van. About 30 minutes later, we stopped at the Panjakent Market, where we had the opportunity to observe local life in Tajikistan while our friendly guide, Dodo, collected lunch for the group. From there, we headed toward the famous Seven Lakes, traveling along rugged mountain roads. Although the journey was occasionally bumpy, the breathtaking scenery made every moment worthwhile. Unfortunately, we were only able to visit six of the seven lakes because a recent landslide had blocked access to the seventh lake. Nevertheless, the lakes we visited were stunning, each with its own unique colour and character. A special mention goes to our guide, Dodo, who was incredibly accommodating throughout the trip. One of our fellow travelers wanted to buy a souvenir magnet, and since souvenir shops are quite rare along this route, Dodo went out of his way to find a shop before our return journey. His attentiveness and dedication to ensuring everyone had a great experience truly stood out. Please note that the weather in the mountains can change quickly, so bring a windproof and waterproof jacket is recommended.
I had an amazing day today. After spending two extremely hot days in Bukhara, joining the Tajikistan Seven Lakes tour was a complete game changer. The stunning greenery, mountains, and breathtaking lake views made it an unforgettable experience. Special applause goes to our driver, who skillfully navigated the rough, narrow, and winding mountain roads with great confidence and care. The journey itself was almost as impressive as the destination.
The tour will be remembered for a lifetime thanks to the amazing scenery and caring guides. It says no meals, but thanks to the guide's help, you can find delicious meals (free of charge). I recommend it. The road to Seven Lakes is quite rough, so be prepared for that
Description of the itinerary is incorrect Alauddin lake is not included in the tour but the 7 lakes tour was a great day trip from Samarcande, driver and guide didn’t speak very good English but it was okay, driving is a bit too fast sometimes. Lunch was not great so bring your own snacks drinks or buy at the supermarket at the Penjakhent market in case. We skipped the Sarazm UNESCO site because the guide seemed in a hurry to get home. Since the itinerary wasn't fully followed, I can only give 3 stars.
Fabulous scenery, very comfortable transport and very helpful guide. The tour is listed as an 8 hour tour but in reality it is 12 to 13
Beautiful tour! It’s defenetely worth it! Our guide was great and really pacient. Í recommend this tour to anyone.
Excellent place to visit. Be prepared for rough road ride. Bring food and water from ubz. Cafe prices in Tajik by the minute. Sellers rip people off
From Samarkand I made a day trip to the 7 lakes (Haft Kul) and it was without doubt another highlight of my trip. The border crossing was completely smooth and stress-free. We exchanged some money and had the opportunity to have a small breakfast and buy snacks. At the end there was a shared meal, which was included. Our driver took us safely and with a lot of joy on the piggyback slope to all lakes, humorously it was free massage in Tajikistan. Each of the seven lakes has a different color and the lakes are super clear, the water ice cold. At the lakes there was sufficient time to enjoy the scenery. Guide or driver liked to take photos of us at the best spots. A really nice excursion and I recommend to reserve a day in the tourist program.
We had such an amazing experience and the view! It was just me and another woman, but we really enjoyed having a picnic with our guide and driver in a quiet place with snowy scenery along the way. Before we went to Seven Lakes, we had a bit of sightseeing in the bazaar and other places, and it was good to know the city of Tajikistan. Of course, Seven Lakes was amazing. I want to go again in August.
We had an amazing time with Murod. He was very informative about Tajikistan and Uzbekistan history. The seven lakes were beautiful with the snow and he even stopped by Sarazm Archaeological Site on the way home for us. We had a great time and would 100% recommend doing this day trip if you’re staying in Samarkand.
