A great experience! With this you get to know a piece of Tanzania outside the tourist route (lodges, safaris, Zanzibar, Masaai market). An insight into how Tanzanians live. Also for our children (13-15) it was quite an experience to see how life here is so different from what they know. Advise everyone to broaden your trip and the view of Tanzania. In a very different way, as impressive as a safari day. You also support a good cause.
This tour was absolutely incredible and a true highlight of my time in Tanzania! Given was an amazing guide and we saw, tasted, and learned about things we never would have without him. Truly, his cause and experience are something incredible and I am so glad we went on this tour. With only a day in Arusha after our hike and safari, we didn’t know what to do and felt like we had already done all of the touristy things. This was incredibly authentic and gave us a peek into the daily life of the incredible Tanzanian people. And supporting an affordable daycare for children, a cause Given has courageously undertaken, made the entire experience even better.
We travel regularly and really enjoy walking tours whenever we get to a new city. Our guide Given was super kind and knowledgable, walking us through parts of town we would have never made our way through otherwise. He was open to talking about local farming, religion, and everything in between. Really great insights into Arusha and Tanzanian culture from a local - the exact reason you’d be interested in this tour in the first place. Everyone was super nice along the way and we even came away from the tour with a couple of bottles of banana wine that it seems like we would have had a really tough time getting our hands on otherwise. If you’re looking for a unique, memorable, and truly authentic experience while visiting Arusha, we can’t recommend this tour enough.
Definitely would recommend this tour! You see Arusha differently from where you would normally go and you learn a lot about how they live and work. Additionally, you get to taste great streetfood!
Given and Jackson are two awesome local guides. A genuine and really cool way to see the local agriculture, industry and everyday life of people in Arusha. You wont run into a single other tourist. They take you to try some really delicious local street food and some Arusha made banana wine/beer if thats your thing. 100% worth it. Given owns and runs a local preschool 25/30 minutes out of town for kids who can't afford private school fees. Anyways, do the tour. You wont regret it :)
We only had one afternoon in Arusha before going on safari and wanted to see a little of life in the city. Given met us at the market and took us in a walking tour of Sinani, an area rarely visited by tourists. We walked through narrow streets and paths as Given told us about urban farming where families grow crops on small strips of land. He answered all our questions about education, health and social care ( or lack of it) and more. We tried local foods and drank banana wine in a hut. We finished with chips mayai , a delicious combo of chips and egg. Given runs a small children’s charity in the town and all the tour money goes to this.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the local culture and people of Arusha. Kevin and Jackson were excellent guides, explaining about the local way of life while you get to try different local food and banana beer. I highly recommend this tour if you have a couple of hours to spend in Arusha and are tired of being approached by street vendors while you roam the city by yourself.
A very interesting afternoon visiting off the beaten path locations and learning more about the history, politics and food in Tanzania. Recommend this tour if you want to see the real Arusha and how the locals live.
Fascinating and informative experience with our wonderful guides Jackson and Given. Ate some delicious street food and were guided through streets, back alleys and small farming plots to get an idea of what everyday life is like for the locals. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. It was interesting to learn about the foundation and booking this tour is a great way to support local people.
Given (my guide) was punctual and had excellent English. He was able to explain in great detail all the different points that we stopped. I tried cassava, fried banana, baobab sweets and could have also enjoyed chips mayai but had had that for lunch. Perfect way to fill a few hours and learn a little bit about Tanzanian culture. Thank you 🙏
