First, I’d like to start off by mentioning that even though this says this is a First, I’d like to start off by mentioning that, even though this says this is an English speaking guide, our driver didn’t speak any English! He had someone with him that greeted us that spoke English, but when we got into the vehicle, he didn’t speak any so we couldn’t communicate on our travel plans for the day When visiting this port on a cruise ship, there really aren’t many options for tours. The forest tour was just OK, I guess the highlight was seen the red Columbus monkey. We had an energetic tour guide which made it more lively. The spice farm was very interesting. We had a female guide that took us through all of the trees and vines they grow at this location and learn learned about how the spices are cultivated and used. The only thing I found a little interesting at the end was they didn’t really have a spice shop where you could buy several of the spice trees and shrubs they had on the property. Lastly, the stone tour was interesting learning about the slave trade, but our tour guide could’ve been better. He was a little more interested in chatting with his buddies along the tour and didn’t really engage with us as tourists. He was knowledgeable and everything, but it could’ve been a lot more interesting if we had a guy that really got into the history. I would probably give this a three star, but I gave it a four star because there really isn’t any other options in this port for tourists.
For the first part Abdul was awesome. Knowledgeable, kind and listened well, answered all questions. For the second leg we had Ahmed who was also wonderful
What an amazing day, our driver Ahmed met us at the port, excellent communication about where to meet. It was quite rainy and so we made a few adjustments to the order of our day, he was great about calling ahead to verify availability and accessibility as two of us travel with walkers and poc’s. We started at a beautiful spice farm where they had guides to show us around and then we sat under a covered area to learn how the spices were used for cooking and healing. We also tried some amazing fresh fruits. We then drove to Jozani forest (a beautiful ride with so much to see). A guide there showed us around and the rain cleared and we were able to see several monkeys, definitely a highlight for us! We then drove back towards port and Stone Town. On our way out we’d driven through and seen quite a bit but the tour included a guide and short walking tour. Our guide was amazing and started telling us all kinds of stories as we drove through the market area heading to where we had planned to park. The rain decided to return in full force so we opted to return to the ship and be content with what we saw driving through. I can’t believe how much we were able to do given how much it rained and our limited mobility. Ahmed and all of our guides were so kind and helpful, I heartily recommend this tour!
Our tour started off with our wonderful driver Ahmedi he gave us so much great information and was great to just talk to. Our first stop was Jozani forest where we had another great guide with an eagle eye. We got to see so many monkeys up close! Then we headed to Stone town. Our guide was amazing! A local himself he took us all over in a very quick amount of time. He was extremely knowledgeable. He also gave us a great lunch recommendation at the Africa hotel. The food was amazing and the view overlooking the water was wonderful. Then we headed to our last stop the spice farm, a perfect way to end the day. We learned so much and got to try the freshest fruits ever. 12/10 tour!
On the 20th of June we had a private tour with Sultan tours for Jozani Forest, Spice farm and Stonetown. The communication with the organization was superb and the chauffeur was precisely on time. Furthermore, he was kind and patient as it took a whole day. Another good point was that for each section of the tour we had a separate guide who was specialized on that specific subject. Comparing the price with other operators, the price/quality ratio was excellent. I would recommend Sultan tours to anyone who is interested in sightseeing in Zanzibar
The Tour itself is a pretty good combination for the money and sure to take all day if you are staying somewhere in the North as it takes some time to travel. The Jozani forest was first, a pretty short stop to take a brief walk in the jungle and you are pretty much guaranteed to see the monkeys. Then a quick walk around the mangroves and back to the car. This is done in small groups by the way. Might be worth spending 30 minutes more afterwards in the jungle to see more things. Next up was Stone Town, this was pretty much perfect, professional guide, plenty time and all very safe and easy. Last up was the spice farm which was interesting but also felt like a bit too much focused on activities for tips. Altogether a good tour that still can handle some improvements.
Our guide did explain all history behind the stone town and take us to all landmarks that are located in Stone Town and it reminds me a little bit of Sevilla. Spice Farm was so memorable and was the best in Zanzibar, tasted all spices and enjoyed fresh fruit and great dish too. Jozani Park was great too. I highly recommend it, The Sultan Tours was so helpful during our trip in Tanzania.
Thank you alot for rating us with 5 stars and for recommending us to others, we really do appreciate it so much. Also we are so happy to hear that you had a wonderful time with us on your trip.
