Construída em estilo neobizantino, é uma das maiores catedrais ortodoxas orientais do mundo, além de um dos símbolos e principais atrações turísticas de Sófia.
O projeto desse edifício, em estilo neoclássico, do arquiteto vienense Friedrich Schwanberg, foi realizado no período entre 1881 e 1883.
Com seus 8,5 milhões de documentos, a Biblioteca Nacional “St. Cirilo e Metódio” é o maior tesouro de livros da Bulgária. Os visitantes verão exposições temporárias em seu interior. A coleção de livros antigos, raros e valiosos inclui um total de cerca de 17.000 volumes de livros e periódicos impressos no período dos séculos XV a XXI. Os materiais são organizados em coleções separadas.
O edifício da Assembleia Nacional é de importância histórica e é um monumento da cultura. Foi construído em 1884-1886 com projeto do arquiteto Constantin Yovanovic
A Universidade de Sófia "St. Kliment Ohridski" e a Biblioteca Nacional "St. St. Cyril e Methodius" ficam perto da Ponte das Águias. A universidade foi fundada em 1º de outubro de 1888. De segunda a sexta, os visitantes também podiam ver o incrível salão central com grandes vitrais.
Estabelecido há mais de 140 anos, tornou-se um dos centros comerciais mais importantes da cidade metropolitana. Quase 60.000 pessoas visitam o Mercado Zhenski Pazar todos os dias. O mercado está localizado na chamada Área de Tolerância em Sófia. O nome em si é cunhado após a proximidade dos templos de todas as comunidades religiosas oficiais na Bulgária. Aqui você pode encontrar a igreja “Santos Cirilo e Metódio“, a Mesquita “Banya bashi” e a Sinagoga Central de Sófia.
O primeiro muro de fortificação de Serdica foi erguido na segunda metade do século II d.C. Tinha uma largura de 2,20 m. No final do século III, início do século IV d.C., foi realizada uma remodelação do muro e uma vala foi cavada na frente dele - 14 m a oeste do portão ocidental, com cerca de 2 m de profundidade e 5 m de largura, funcionando no século IV.
O antigo complexo cultural e de comunicação “Serdica” combina áreas com vários propósitos, divididas em duas zonas. A zona “Largo”, situada abaixo da Praça Nezavisimost, integra os restos arqueológicos desenterrados em um local para eventos culturais. Os restos de uma das duas principais ruas da cidade romana, a decumanus maximus, que conecta o portão leste e oeste da cidade, podem ser vistos aqui. Um grande edifício residencial, cobrindo uma ínsula inteira (quarteirão urbano), pode ser visto ao sul dele. O edifício também tinha pequenas lojas, nas quais os viajantes e os habitantes da cidade podiam comprar alimentos e vários produtos.
O edifício da Sinagoga Central de Sófia é corretamente descrito como o orgulho da comunidade judaica búlgara. É uma das três maiores sinagogas sefarditas (judaico-espanholas) da Europa e a maior da Península Balcânica.
Os visitantes irão ver as fontes termais naturais da cidade - 46 graus Celsius O atual edifício dos Banhos Minerais Centrais foi projetado no estilo da Secessão de Viena, mas integrando elementos ornamentais tipicamente búlgaros, bizantinos e ortodoxos orientais, pelos arquitetos Petko Momchilov e Friedrich Grünanger em 1904-1905 e aprovado em 30 de janeiro de 1906, como projetos de um austríaco (em 1889)
Foi construída pela iniciativa e com o apoio financeiro do Mullah Effendi Kada Seyfullah e também é conhecida como Mesquita Mollah Effendi. Foi projetada pelo famoso arquiteto otomano Mimar Sinan, que também construiu a mesquita do Sultão Selim em Edirne e a Mesquita Suleymaniye em Istambul. Por causa do número 974 acima do arco de entrada, a mesquita é considerada construída em 974, o Hijri (calendário islâmico) ou em 1566 – 1567 d.C.

Peter is super nice and very knowledgeable, and I really appreciated that he still continued the tour even though I was the only traveller - thank you Peter xx Being a real ‘foody’ I was so excited, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed, as I was really looking forward to a proper Bulgarian food experience. It felt a little rushed, with no slow-cooked traditional dishes or historical Bulgarian dive spots, except for the crafty little beer bar and Maya ‘the rakia lady’, which were definitely the highlight. For me the experience didn't match the price or the time involved, and I couldn’t help feeling it was a bit of a waste for both Peter and myself. I would recommend this tour for groups, but solo travellers should perhaps be told in advance and given the option to join when other travellers are booked. Wish you all the best Peter!

This food tour is a great way to see and experience Sofia! Highly recommend this tour, especially as a solo traveler. I was the only person on the tour and it was still held which I very much appreciated. This is a must-do in Sofia in my opinion.

My family (3) had a wonderful time touring with Peter! What I love about this tour is the fact that we went to restaurants that I would not have ever gone too (as I speak English and really struggle to understand Bulgarian even with a translation app). But going with a local to try authentic Bulgarian places with traditional dishes and regional drinks was perfect! Breaking bread with our small group brought Bulgarian, American, Scot, and New Zealand personalities and perspectives together to unpack the amazing history of the city Sophia and Bulgarian life. Food was delicious (come with an empty stomach!), time was right, we hopped on and off public transportation to enjoy the old neighborhoods…all in all I recommend making time for this one!

Peter was very prompt meeting us and the pick up point was easy to find. He was very interesting about the history and the food in Sofia which is a fascinating place. The kids were entertained and the tram rides were fun. It was an original way to see the city with a wonderful guide.

It was an excellent evening walking tour. Peter is an excellent guide, with deep knowledge and flair for sharing it. Peter planned well for the tram and metro ride with pre booked tickets which made it hassle free. He was patient with all queries especially from my inquisitive children. He took us to the National Library where he showed us the mystery 2060 book to be revealed in that year as a message to future generation. He made us explore the old and new parts of Sofia with elaborate explanations of architecture, culture and historic timeline. He also took us to Sofia info centre where we got a quick demo of Bulgarian Language, and Ms Monica was gracious to give us the pin badge of Bulgarian alphabets.
