Taking a class with Maki Sensei was one of the best experiences of my trip. She's an amazing teacher, so knowledgeable, patient, and generous with feedback. Her guidance was always constructive, and she constantly cheered me on throughout the class. Having a supportive teacher who is willing to go into the details and thoughtfully answer every question made the experience incredibly valuable. I also loved the personalized calligraphy gifts and spending time chatting about Japanese culture with a local. I’ll definitely come back!

Maki is an extraordinary teacher. She speaks very English very well and explains all the technics very carefully. She does not mind to repite many times the same explanation and makes the clase very participative. The experience is very personal because it is in the livings room of her hause and is open to explain the japanish culture. I can only recommend it!

First, Maki-sensei met me at Yoga Station. She is a very kind and welcoming person. The lesson took place at her home, a very peaceful environment to learn. We discussed the 5 shodo styles, fude(brush) etiquette, as well as, Kanji stroke order and other detailed writing mechanics. She was very patient and encouraging during the learning process. Often pointing out areas of improvement. Never made me feel like like I was wasting paper. Just keep encouraging me. Plus, she helped with my Japanese speaking and listening during the lesson. An overall great experience with an even greater person. ありがとうございました、Maki-sensei! またこんど。
I had a wonderful time with Maki this afternoon. I leaned an awful lot about Japanese language and Japanese calligraphy. Maki was so helpful and so friendly. This was one of the highlights of my trip to Tokyo. I highly recommend it.

We loved this class! Maki had everything laid out for us, drinks for us to try, and explained everything step-by-step. Maki is an effortless, careful and systematic teacher. She makes Shodo look less daunting, and I could get engaged in the process in a way that it felt like I'm painting, with some key rules! Will take her session again and visit soon. Highly recommend!
