We didn’t actually make the tour in the end as our baby was unwell, but felt the need to leave a review to pass on our thanks for the kindness and understanding from Dalila and team, when we had to cancel our booking at the very last minute. Friends of ours went on this trip and said it was the best ever, so we’re looking forward to coming back next time.
Great cruise to see the dolphins. Taken in the morning at 9:30 AM departing from Lagos. Boat with about 20 people. Great guide and explanations. Fast boat adding to the experience.
Be prepared to get a little wet but what a fabulous experience seeing a large pod of dolphins in their natural habitat. The guide advised us on the way out that due to this they could not guarantee we would see dolphins but told us all what to be on the look out for ie birds circling above & we came across a huge pod of common dolphins.Fabulous watching them & sharing the experience with the other trips members. Lots of excitement & smiles from everyone. Highly recommend
Amazing experience! Money well spent. Respectful approach towards the dolphins and nature. Heartwarming experience.
Excellent boat and crew! Saw a multitude of common dolphin including two mommas with babies! Awesome excursion!
We got very wet and didn’t see anything unfortunately. We were told at the start of the trip that sightings are not guaranteed, which we understand, but having been on different dolphin boats every year for the last 3 years and seen dolphins, whales and porpoises, it was very disappointing and I felt there could have been some compensation, or a voucher for another trip, especially as the weather was bad and there were clearly no other dolphin boats anywhere in sight, maybe because of the weather? This particular boat is very bouncy and splashy, so I wouldn’t recommend if you are prone to travel sickness, or have a bad back. The staff were very nice and did their best to cheer everyone up.
We specifically booked a tour that was advertised as focusing exclusively on dolphin watching. Shortly after departure, we encountered bottlenose dolphins, which was great. However, after about 45 minuted, the boat headed towards the coastal cliffs to visit the caves and rock formations instead. While we fully respect that the animals deserve peace and that sightings can never be guaranteed, we wonder why no further effort was made to search for dolphins in other locations, such as common dolphins. We specifically chose and paid for a tour that was dedicated solely to dolphin spotting. We had already visited the caves and cliffs on a different tour, for which we had paid separately. As a result, we effectively paid twice for the same cave and cliff experience, even though this was not what we had booked or expected from this tour.
The idea to create a boat tour for watching a colony of dolphins in Atlantic Ocean, it was a brilliant idea. I took the tour because everyone young or old love the dolphins. And I lovend it. The boat was a light, safe boat. The tour guide was knowledgeable about what we are going to watch. It was a sunny day, clear sky, a perfect day to enjoy watching Flipper and his brothers, sisters, cousins playing. And we're lucky to watch a big colony of dolphins swimming along the boat, under the boat, flipping, twisting, giving us a free ,unforgettable show. All of us took lots of pictures. Unfortunately we had to go back to the marina, but I can say to everybody: take this tour and you will never regret being on the boat for 1 hour and half.
It's tricky to review this properly, as the company (Bom Dia) did provide us with a tour, but not the one we originally booked. Apparently, they have lots of issues with people booking via TripAdvisor with the booking not going through even though payment has been taken and it shows up on your bookings. I would highly recommend checking with them a few days after booking just to confirm it's gone through, or (to be safe) perhaps booking direct with Bom Dia or through another company instead of TripAdvisor. The reason why I have still given this 4 stars is because, despite this, the team at the check in desk were extremely understanding and apologetic, and managed to slot myself and my partner onto an afternoon (as opposed to our planned morning) boat tour to see dolphins but also to see some of the Benagil Caves. In doing so we got to see some Risso's dolphins (albeit not too close to the boat, and the photos do not do them any justice) but a pretty magical experience either way. Our marine biologist on board also gave us a little talk as we approached the end of the tour about those dolphins, telling us that the chance of seeing that species of dolphin is very rare, so as far as I am concerned, even though this was not the trip we planned, we still got to see dolphins (rare ones at that!) and even got to go into some of the Benagil caves which were pretty awesome.
Longer boat ride due to distance from Benagil and the search for the dolphins. Very end of March we got to see a small group of 10-15 common dolphins but the water was so clear we could sometimes see 5 of them at a time! Maria, our marine biologist aboard, was great to narrate and explain some of their activity. Even with the mostly calm waters, this tour is not for those who get motion sick easily. The boat bounced constantly for 20-30 minutes or more for 3 different segments of the trip, especially when opposing the waves. They are not kidding if you have neck or back problems that are easily affected by constant bouncing of the boat at high speeds. The crew do have ways to manage for the handful of people on our tour that still felt/got sick but they did have to sit at the back by the loud motor to find some relief. Its clear for all tours but just in case: there is no stopping on the beach at Benagil Cave, just pulling the boat inside to look and take pictures. We were lucky with a gorgeous sunny day - but we still wore the provided windbreakers over our long-sleeve shirts and jackets because of the high speed wind of the boat.
