Identical experience as cruise line choice. Except only 5 cruisers in our vehicle driven by knowledgeable guide who was aware of where to find specific animals (often knew their names). And, oh by the way, less than half the price of the cruise line.
Everything went perfectly from pick-up, to execution and return to port. Our tour guide Kim was in a good mood and explained a lot. High praise!
Schotia is a large private reserve, which allows to observe a wide variety of animals in its environment, the excursion in open jeeps allows us to live a very natural and direct experience with the environment. It is a highly recommended activity for people who like to share outdoors.
This game reserve safari proved to be an exciting and educational experience. Traveling in small groups aboard 4x4 vehicles allowed us to navigate the natural terrain with ease and observe wildlife in its authentic environment. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the ecosystem, animal behavior, and conservation efforts, and he worked diligently to position us for close-up views of as many species as possible. Although I was slightly disappointed not to encounter an elephant on this particular outing, we were fortunate enough to see the remainder of the famed “Big Five,” as well as many other remarkable animals. One of the highlights of the day was spotting a baby rhinoceros—an unforgettable moment and a rare privilege considering the species’ vulnerable status. Because this was a full-day excursion, the company provided a simple but satisfying lunch, including sandwiches, chips, chocolate bars, and drinks. I captured numerous photos throughout the day, many of which I will cherish as lifelong memories. Overall, the experience was well-organized, immersive, and rewarding. I would not hesitate to join this tour again.
Don't waste your money! Go to the Amakhala safari! We had friends who went there and saw everything plus lovely lunch. And they paid less! We went on Scotia through Sunday's River Adventures! Only saw 3 out of 5 missing jaguar and would you believe elephants! Lion at a long distance! Only 1 I am celiac and although they were notified I got no snacks! Neither did the vegans! Was promised they would stop but didn't so had nothing for over 10 hrs! Now refusing to answer my emails! Not the company to deal with 😒
Wonderful day Marilyn and crew very fun and knowledgeable have a nose for lions!! Elephants too nice snacks
A fabulous tour with Elaine from Sunday River Tours. She collected us from the ship and took us to Scotia where we changed to the open safari vehicle. A great safari area. We saw the Big5 (minus leopard). Enjoyed a good lunch too. Elaine was a great interesting guide. It was a small group tour but just the two of us. One comment was that the communication could have been better.
We were on a cruise and were picked up at the port. We had to walk a short distance to the dock gates to meet Marilyn our guide but this is because either the port, cruise ships or their nominated tour companies are not letting other tour operators near the ship. Marilyn was an excellent guide with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm for our trip to Schotia Safari park. After a short stop at a petrol station, for a comfort break and collecting supplies, we headed to the park. We were in a jeep of 9 people and Marilyn was amazing at giving us all time to see and photograph the animals. We were able to get up really close but she always made sure we were safe and the animals happy with our presence. Schotia has so much more than Addo in variety of animals. We saw lions, elephants, buffalo and rhinos among lots of other animals. We had a great 5 hours at Schotia including a short lunch break where we had sandwiches, crisps, cold beer and soft drinks. Marilyn provided good commentary as we drove round and was amazing at spotting animals. Sunday River drivers kept in touch and shared tips on where the animals were so we didn’t miss any. Overall this was the best safari we have been on and the price was much less than the cruise companies were charging. Thank Marilyn for a really enjoyable day and I would recommend supporting a local company like Sunday River Adventures.
