A Fantastic Trekking Experience in Cusco

Huge thanks to our guide, Yojhan, who took amazing care of our group! Our Salkantay trek was a fantastic experience. You can really feel the passion from him and the entire Alpaca Expeditions team, especially as Yojhan shared so much fascinating Quechua and Inca history. The views of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains were stunning. I will absolutely recommend Yojhan and this company to friends wanting to trek in Cusco!

5D/ 4N Salkantay Trek. Amazing Trip, great guides!!

We just got back from our Peru trip after completing the 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu....it exceeded every expectation I had! The entire experience from booking to the Trek, food and accomodations was incredibly well organized from start to finish. Our guides, Sergio and Walter made this experience so memorable. Sergio is not only knowledagble and great story teller, but very conscience of the group and people needs along the hike. You can tell both he and Walter love their culture and history and wants to share it with others. Both guides spoke excellent English and were able to communiate everything about the hike and landmarks clearly. We had a diverse group from 57 yr old to 14 yr old, which meant we had different skill levels for the hike. The guides showed innate ability to spot this on the first day and made everyone feel comfortable at their own pace. The food was great, and consistent across the trek. The "Super" chefs and "Super" porters travel along with you...ahead of you really, and get all the food prepared before you arrive at your next destination. Every meal felt like a treat after a long hiking day. The accommodations got better as you go along the trek which is motivating in and of itself. Hot showers on the 3rd day was AMAZING!! All the places had beds, sleeping bags which go with you from stop to stop. The scenery along the Salkantay Trek is second to none and Alpaca Expeditions, especially the guides, make this an expeience you will never forget! Our guide Sergio has been doing this for 10 years, and is top notch! Our other guide Walter, it was his first trek as a guide but you wouldn't have know if he didn't tell us...he had a very sweet and gentle personality. Walter was a porter previously, and it really says something abount this company that they are taking hard working people and promoting them internally! Book these guys ASAP, you will not forget it!!

Macha guacamole group 🥑

Yjohanc (hope I'm spelling it right) was our guide for the whole trip and it was absolutely amazing! Everything was already included from and to your accommodation and the communication were very clear and responsive! Our guide was very informative and fun and caring throughout the whole trip, making sure each and every one of us enjoyed the process, even during the tough hikes. It's also good to know that all of this are from the local community, which by the way not just the guide, but every other member of alpaca expedition was very very friendly and fun! Will definitely recommend to everyone!

Tupananchikkama (Until we meet again) Walter and Sergio! ((Stop looking, this is the tour company to book with!))

Walter and Sergio exceeded every expectation and consistently impressed our group with their thoughtfulness, professionalism, and attention to detail. Throughout our five-day trek, they demonstrated an incredible ability to anticipate our needs, share their extensive knowledge of local history and customs, and carefully monitor the health, safety, and abilities of every member of our group. We traveled with 11 friends and family members ranging in age from 13 to over 50, with widely varying levels of hiking experience and physical fitness. Walter and Sergio quickly assessed each person's capabilities and, when concerns arose, handled them discreetly and professionally. They communicated directly with individuals and parents when appropriate, ensuring everyone remained safe and supported throughout the trek. When alternative transportation options were available and advisable, they proactively arranged them. Their dedication extended far beyond the trail itself. Our group's post-trek travel plans were particularly complex, with some members departing on Day 4 and the rest of us joining them in the Sacred Valley the following day. Walter and Sergio went far above and beyond to coordinate every detail. They ensured that both people and luggage arrived where they needed to be and either personally accompanied us to train stations, hotels, restaurants, and check-ins or arranged for hotel staff to meet us and guide us upon arrival. The trek itself was unforgettable. The food was excellent, plentiful, and far exceeded our expectations. Every evening included a warm soup, and each morning began with coca tea or coffee—exactly what you want when waking up in the cold after a long day of hiking. Fresh water, boiled for safety, was always readily available, and the team ensured every hiker could keep a full hydration bladder throughout the journey. The sleeping bags were clean and warm, though I would recommend bringing warm sleepwear, as the accommodations are not insulated and temperatures can drop significantly overnight. Even so, the lodging was remarkably comfortable considering how remote the locations are. Of course, the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The trail makes you work for the views, but every climb is rewarded with landscapes that are truly awe-inspiring. Because all but one member of our group spoke only English, having guides who could communicate effectively was important. Sergio is fully fluent in English, and Walter communicates very well. One of my favorite parts of the trip was spending time with Walter as he taught me Spanish and Quechua words and phrases while I helped him continue refining his English. What made the experience especially meaningful was the deep connection Walter and Sergio have to the land, culture, and history of the places we visited. They shared their knowledge, personal experiences, and traditions with humility and sincerity, which added a richness to the journey that went far beyond the trek itself. For me, the highlight of the entire trip was the ceremony we participated in at Salkantay Pass honoring Pachamama and the Salkantay Apu. It was a powerful and memorable experience that offered a deeper understanding of the spiritual significance of the region and the people who call it home. Their willingness to share these traditions so openly left me feeling both grateful and deeply moved. Perhaps the most special aspect of our trip was that we were Walter's very first group as a lead guide. Learning that he had worked his way through Alpaca's ranks as both a porter and assistant chef before being promoted to guide made his performance even more impressive. His expertise, attentiveness, engagement with every member of our group, and genuine joy on the trail are a testament to Alpaca's commitment to developing and training exceptional guides. Sergio also shared that Alpaca's owner and founder once worked as both a porter and guide before starting the company. That firsthand experience appears to shape the company's culture in meaningful ways. It was evident that there is a strong commitment not only to creating an exceptional experience for guests but also to supporting and investing in the people who make those experiences possible. Our entire group left with incredible memories, a deep appreciation for the region, and immense gratitude for Walter, Sergio, and the entire Alpaca team. I would recommend them without hesitation. PS. To Walter and Segio, whom will always have a place of honor in my heart, Allillanmi!!

A beautiful tour

The Salkantay Trek is a beautiful hike, it is quite demanding but the comfort of the lovely accommodations makes it very manageable. The hotel in Aguas Calientes is beautiful. The food is spectacular and there is great support from Raúl the guide and the Alpaca team at all times. A highly recommended agency.

Salkantay machu pichu trek with Wilber ocon and Kenyo as our guides.

Did the Alpaca five day four night Salkantay machu pichu trek with Wilber ocon and Kenyo as our guides. We were a family of three including our teenage daughter and the arrangements far exceeded our expectations. The whole team, including the porters and the cooks worked very hard to make the trek as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Even while climbing the steepest of hills, they kept a very pleasant demeanor and attitude that rubbed off on all of us. No hesitation to recommend these two guides and Alpaca expeditions to anyone considering a Salkantay trek.

Incredible

This was the most amazing trip ever. It was so amazing because of our guides, Walter and Sergio. They were so accommodating, friendly, passionate, and went above and beyond my expectations. This experience would not be the same without them.

Salkantay

My partner and I did the 5D/4N Salkantay trek with Soledad! She was great and knowledgeable. She did a great job communicating in English and made sure everyone understood before moving on. Soledad was knowledgeable about the history of the incans and shared their culture with us. As an LGBT couple, Soledad made us feel welcomed and safe. Ronnie always made great food! They were able to accommodate to a variety of dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or vegan diets.

Alpaca’s flexibility and Javier’s Professionalism

We booked the Salkantay trek months in advance, but due to medical reasons one of our members couldn’t do the hike. Alpaca Expeditions did an outstanding job with arrangements and accommodations for us to still get the Machu Picchu experience we’ve dreamed of. They set us up with Javier Flores as a guide. From the moment we were in route to Aguas Calientes until we arrived back in Cusco, Javier made our experience as easy and worry free as possible. He was excellent with communication and organization before and after. On the tour he was very knowledgeable about the site, an easy conversationalist, and spoke about the history with proud Peruvian ties. He definitely made it a trip to remember. Huge thanks to Javier and Alpaca Expeditions for navigating the experience of a lifetime!

Unforgettable salkantay trek experience

This was my first time doing a hiking trek with a guide and I would 100% do another one from my experience. Our guide, Ivan, and the whole staff made our whole trip an unforgettable one. They always have a positive attitude and ensure everyone is taken care of. The price for the whole trek is extremely reasonable considering all the accommodations and the amazing food they prepare for you. They do have some very early mornings, but it's great to feel so accomplished at such an early time in the day. I would highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions for anyone that wants to have an adventure of a lifetime shared with great people, amazing food and a vibrant atmosphere!
