My friend and I just got back from two unforgettable nights at Praro Amboseli Camp in the Amboseli ecosystem, and it was easily one of the best safari experiences we've had. We were looking for something intimate and wildlife-focused, and this place delivered perfectly. The camp itself is beautiful—spacious, comfortable tents with great beds, lovely bathrooms, and that classic safari vibe without feeling too rugged. Waking up every morning to the sight of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance (when the clouds cooperated) was magical. We even had zebras and elephants wandering near the waterhole right by the camp, talk about front-row seats to nature! The real highlight was the game drives. Our guide Mike was fantastic, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely excited to show us everything. He had an incredible eye for spotting animals and knew exactly where to go. Over the two days we saw so much: massive elephant herds (including some impressive big tuskers), lions lounging in the shade, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and tons of birds. The sunsets over the plains were breathtaking too. Mike made every drive feel special and personalized, which made a huge difference for just the two of us. Food was excellent fresh, tasty meals with nice variety, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout. The whole camp has a relaxed, welcoming feel, like you're part of a small family rather than just guests. If you're thinking of a shorter safari in Amboseli and want great wildlife, stunning views, and top-notch guiding, I can't recommend Praro Amboseli (Zebra Plains) enough. My 2-day safari in Amboseli National Park and it was everything I hoped for and more. Mike was our guide, and from the moment we met him he made the whole trip feel personal and relaxed. He has this calm, knowledgeable way about him spotting animals we would have completely missed and sharing stories that brought the park to life without ever feeling like a lecture. The highlight was definitely the elephants. We got incredibly close to big herds, including some massive bulls and playful calves. The views of Kilimanjaro in the background were stunning, especially in the early morning light. We also saw lions, zebras, giraffes, and plenty of birds. Mike knew exactly where to go and when, so we never felt like we were just driving around randomly. We stayed at Kibo Safari Camp, which was the perfect base. The tents are comfortable, the food is excellent (especially the fresh dinners after long game drives), and the staff are genuinely friendly. Waking up to the sounds of the savanna right outside was magical. If you're considering a short safari in Amboseli, I highly recommend going with Mike. We had just spent two weeks in Sri Lanka, where the wildlife was beautiful but honestly a bit disappointing when it came to elephants. We only caught quick glimpses of a few from a distance, and it left us feeling like we’d missed out on something special. So when we added a quick two-day safari to Amboseli in Kenya right after, we were really hoping for better luck. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip. From the moment we arrived, Amboseli felt completely different. The landscape is stunning — that wide-open savannah with Mount Kilimanjaro towering in the background is just breathtaking, especially in the early morning light. Our lodge was comfortable and the staff were warm and helpful, which made the short stay feel relaxing rather than rushed. The game drives were excellent. On the first afternoon we saw lions lounging under acacia trees, lots of zebras and giraffes, and some playful hyenas. But the elephants… wow. We came across massive herds, some with tiny babies, walking right past our vehicle. We spent ages just watching them , the way they moved together, the dust bathing, the gentle interactions between mothers and calves. It was incredibly moving and exactly what we had been hoping for after Sri Lanka. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient, letting us stay as long as we wanted with the animals instead of rushing off to tick boxes. The second day we did a morning drive and were lucky enough to see more elephants close up, plus a few buffalo and some beautiful birds. The two days felt perfectly balanced , enough time to really enjoy the park without getting exhausted. If you’re coming from Sri Lanka or anywhere else and hoping for that classic big-elephant experience with amazing scenery, Amboseli delivers. Pickup from our hotel in Nairobi was spot on at 6:30am, and our driver/guide George was waiting with a big smile, cold water, and snacks already in the car. The drive down was smooth, and George kept us entertained with stories about the Maasai and the park. Once we entered Amboseli, the landscape just hits you that dusty savannah with the huge herds of elephants everywhere. We spent the whole afternoon game driving and George has incredible eyes! He spotted a big tusker from far away that we would have completely missed, then got us really close (respecting the distance rules) so we could watch a family of about 20 elephants drinking and playing around the swamps with Mount Kilimanjaro peeking out behind them. The mountain was clear both days we even got some amazing photos at sunset. On the second morning we went out early and saw lions lounging on a termite mound, a couple of hyenas, tons of giraffes, zebras, and so many different birds. George explained everything patiently and answered all our silly questions without ever making us feel rushed. He even packed a really nice bush breakfast for us one morning – fresh fruit, eggs, and hot coffee right there in the park. That was a lovely surprise. The kibo safari camp they booked for us was comfortable, clean, and had great views. Food was tasty and the staff friendly. Nothing felt cheap or rushed, even though it was only two days.
