Really a wonderful experience. Rudy took the time to explain about the Mayan life and answer each of our questions (which were many hahahaj). Amazing experience! Highly recommended
We did our the Caracol and waterfalls tour with Edgar and it was the best tour! Edgar is fun, passionate and really knowledgeable. He can answer to all your questions and is honestly a great person. Caracol was amazing and almost empty, it felt we had the site for ourselves. Lunch was fresh and delicious! In the end... Some "jungle juice" to end in glory! Thank you so much Edgar 😃
This was a lovely small tour shared only with one other couple. Rudy our driver and guide was very knowledgeable not only about the ruin and Belize history and culture but numerous other topics. With such a small group we were able to ask many questions and go at our own pace. We did t get to see the cave as with the prior rains the rod was closed but got to stop at the beautiful Rio pools. I would recommend this trip especially if you get Rudy!
Upon arriving to San Ignacio, we discovered that the caves were closed due to flooding. This tour was set up by our host the night before departure. I cannot say enough wonderful things about how beautiful the tour was. Our tour, guide, Angel, was a wealth of knowledge and super good at engaging the group with humor and information. The vehicle he picked us up in from our hotel was beautiful, very comfortable ride, and fostered a nice group atmosphere. The lunch was wonderful, served communally at the Mayan ruins. We really had a beautiful time and would recommend this tour to anyone.
We had the best experience with Belize Caving Expeditions. On our first day in San Ignacio, our hotel set us up with a specialized birding tour with them, and we met our soon-to-be friend Selwyn, since he was their resident bird expert. He started us on the grounds of our hotel, showing us the birds we were sharing the land with so that we could identify them during our stay. Then we started to drive around and stop frequently to spot the resident exotic birds. That day ended up with a canoe tour of Barton Creek Cave and some more impromptu birding while we waited to have the cave to ourselves. The next day, we had a tour to Caracol booked, and they sent Selwyn back to us (pulling him off another tour) since they knew we were avid birders. We spent some more birding time as we drove to and toured the Mayan site - which Selwin was also extremely knowledgeable of. Oh - and we stopped off at his mom's house to get an avocado fresh from the tree to have with our lunch! And speaking of lunch, both days were simple stewed chicken, but they were probably the best meals we had in Belize - always accompanied by fresh tortillas and salsa made by locals. It was more than a tour experience, we really got to know some of the local way of life during our trips with Selwyn and Belize Caving Expeditions. Highly recommend, and get Selwyn if you're into birds at all - he can spot the tiniest bird at several hundred yards while navigating windy streets!
Hugo Onil Avilez is an exceptionally warm and highly motivated guide, whose services come highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion to the Caracol Mayan Ruin, which boasted breathtaking scenery and a serene environment that made for a refreshing walk. The natural bath at Pinol Pools was a wonderful conclusion to the tour. Onil demonstrated impressive knowledge of our Mayan ancestors' history, and we were all impressed by my nephew JJ's engagement and interest in Mayan history. Onil took the time to answer all of JJ's questions. If you're considering booking a private tour to the Mayan temples or ATM caves, Onil is an excellent choice who will not disappoint. We had a very good time during our trip to Caracol! Our guide was very nice and informative, and gave us a lot of insight about how the Maya used to live.
The site is so full of history and so large…I learned so much from our incredibly knowledgeable guide. It wouldn’t be nearly the experience if we did it on our own. Sometimes felt like we had the place to ourselves…
We visited Caracol and Rio On pools guided by Leo and bonus guide for the day Luis. We learned so much about the Mayan history, the Cayo region, and the Caracol excavation (since Leo worked on the excavation himself many years ago!). I was with my 75-year old father and we were able to move around the park easily. The transport was smooth and comfortable, and lunch was delicious.
I packed a lot of great experiences into one week in Belize, but the highlight was the tour to Caracol with our guide Leo. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel to drop-off, the day was full of good conversation, laughs and interesting information on a variety of subjects. This is low season, and we were so fortunate to be able to visit this beautiful site without any other visitors, just the three of us and Leo. The cave and pools before/after Caracol rounded out the day with a nice balance of nature and archeology.
