Very Disappointing Tour Experience Viator must have contracted this tour out to Maui Fantastic, because our experience was extremely disappointing. Our tour guide, Oscar, never introduced himself. The only reason I knew his name was because of a rather nasty email he sent me accusing us of being late. In reality, we were all waiting at the designated pickup area. I honestly don’t believe he was even there when we arrived. He had instructed us to be there at 7:50 a.m., even though our POA cruise ship did not dock until 8:00 a.m. The tour was scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., so his expectations were unreasonable from the start. (Funny, that I had inquired about this excursion, prior to our trip/ cruise because I didn’t believe the time line would work for us. But, I was ensured we would have no problem!) Throughout the tour, Oscar acted as though he was inconvenienced by having us there. When we asked if he could make a bathroom stop, he refused and said it would probably take 15 minutes. At the black sand beach, the only instructions we received were to “be back in an hour.” There was very little interaction, information, or effort to make the experience enjoyable. We were never offered water, drinks, or lunch which was supposedly included. We even had to ask about the banana bread! On top of everything else, Oscar was difficult to understand because of his very thick accent, and his overall attitude and rudeness were completely unnecessary. We paid $1,870 for a party of 11, and for that amount, we expected a much higher level of service, hospitality, and professionalism. I believe Viator needs to seriously reconsider using this tour guide, and Maui Fantastic needs to address how their guests are being treated. We paid a significant amount of money for what was supposed to be a memorable Maui experience, and unfortunately, the experience was anything but. Very disappointed and would not recommend this tour based on our experience.

However, we would also like to clarify several important points for future guests and to provide some context regarding your comments. Before every excursion, our guests receive detailed information about what to expect, including the meeting time, itinerary, restroom schedule, and what to bring. We also send a reminder by text message the day before the tour with the meeting location and schedule. Your tour was scheduled to depart at 9:00 AM, and it did depart as scheduled. Because the Road to Hana is one of Maui’s busiest and most challenging routes—especially on Sundays—we clearly advise guests to use the restroom before departure. Our first scheduled restroom stop is approximately 1½ hours after leaving. We also recommend bringing snacks or food, which guests are welcome to enjoy during appropriate stops or on the beach. We would also like to clarify that lunch is not included in this excursion. The tour information on the booking platform clearly states what is included, and water is provided to our guests. Regarding the time at Black Sand Beach, this was not a decision made by our driver. On that particular day, the Department of Parks had limited access time to approximately one hour due to the unusually high number of visitors and construction-related preparations in the area. Our driver was required to follow those restrictions. As for our driver, Oscar, our understanding is that he followed the established protocol, introduced himself, provided information about the island and the route, and offered water to the group. The Road to Hana is also not designed to be a continuous, narrated sightseeing tour. We encourage our guests to immerse themselves in the scenery and enjoy the waterfalls, rainforest, coastline, and unique landscapes along the journey. Most importantly, the Road to Hana requires our driver’s full attention. The road is narrow, winding, and can be challenging, and safety must always come first. At times, our guides may need to focus primarily on driving rather than providing continuous narration. We are sorry that you felt the level of interaction was not what you expected. At the same time, we respectfully disagree with the suggestion that our driver was intentionally rude or that our company failed to provide the service described at booking. We have hosted many guests on Maui and have received more than 400 positive reviews from travelers who have enjoyed our tours and the care our team puts into providing a safe and memorable experience. We take every review seriously, including critical ones, and we will always use feedback to improve. We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention and sincerely regret that the experience did not align with your expectations. We hope future guests will review the itinerary and included services carefully so they can choose the experience that best matches what they are looking for.

If you think you are stopping to see what's on the picture's think before you book. Not many stops are at the falls pictured. It was ok but you don not go all the way through the road. Driver was a fill in and seemed like he did not want to be there,

Our tour images accurately represent the stops included in the itinerary, and we take care to ensure that promotional materials match what guests actually see. It's possible there was some misunderstanding about which falls correspond to which stop, but we can assure you there is no intention to mislead. You also mentioned that we don't go all the way through the road. For the record, we do – in fact, we travel this route daily and complete the full journey every time. We're not sure where that impression came from, but we want to set the record straight for anyone reading. Overall, we're glad you found the tour "fair," though we always aim for more than that. Great views at the black sand beaches, the waterfalls were great, the banana bread was delicious, and there were so many turtles to see at the last stop. Solid tour.

The original meeting time was 8 am. We received an urgent text at 630 pm on Sunday to say that our meeting time was now 6:50 am with departure at 7 am. So Monday we rushed to be at Ross at 6:50 am. We got there at 6:52 with no tour van or anyone else in sight. I looked up the booking info and confirmed the meeting location. The van arrived at 6:55 with no other guests. We did not leave at 7 since it was only us! We asked to use a restroom because we were clearly going to wait for all the missing guests! The tour driver took us across the street to a strip mall and told us where the restroom was. It was locked! There was another friendly tour guide with his tour group and asked security to open the bathroom! We finished and went back and the van had left us! He returned with one other guest. We returned and still waited for 2 other parties! It was ridiculous at this point because we were almost at the original meeting time! What a nightmare to start the tour. The final guests arrived and it was 735! Why did we rush to get there when others were late? Ridiculous! We went to the black sand beach and it was pouring rain! And there was no delay getting in- we got in fast and we did not see any con construction! Wasn’t this the reason we were meeting early? I don’t understand why we met early if there was no construction or line at the black sand beach? We saw other tour groups like temptation tours giving out huge umbrellas and Dynamic Tour Hawaii giving out bottles of water, sandwiches and also big umbrellas! What a difference between your groups! We also thought we were going to eat lunch! We did stop at the banana bread place but Antonio never mentioned that we were suooosed to get lunch there! So we arrived back at Ross- disappointed with the entire tour!

I do not recommend this tour company. A week before the tour they said not enough people signed up and they may need to cancel. Then 2 days before the tour, they said they couldn’t do the tour the day we booked but we could go the following day. Then the day before the rescheduled date, they completely canceled and told us to request a refund. This tour was supposed to be one of our highlights in Maui, and then we never got to go to Hana because by the time they canceled for the final time it was too late to book a different tour. Very disappointing.

We enjoyed this tour. The stops were beautiful and we spent just enough time at each spot. I hate to say it but our tour guide was really hard to understand and spoke quietly. Also, he crashed into a parked car. The other driver got out and tried to speak to him- he ignored him and kept driving. This left us a bit on edge for the rest of the tour.
