Oimachi fica a apenas dois minutos da linha Yamanote (loop) de Shinagawa. Em instantes, estamos serpenteando pelas ruas estreitas e movimentadas que dão a este bairro o tipo de personagem que você simplesmente não encontra nos distritos de entretenimento de grande escala de Tóquio. Não demorará muito para que nos afundemos em nosso primeiro tachinomi ("bar de pé") para uma cerveja gelada e uma saborosa comida de pub local ao estilo japonês. Se cerveja não é sua praia, existem outras opções. Também disponível, caso você seja um pouco cauteloso com algumas das comidas japonesas mais "avançadas", são opções mais clássicas e amigáveis ao paladar ocidental. Com a fome contida no momento, embarcamos em uma caminhada educacional, explicando (com recursos visuais em abundância) os caprichos da vida noturna japonesa. É um passeio leve, e nos divertimos com ele; você não precisa se preocupar com o fato de ser estridente ou descolorido, e esse passeio também é adequado para adolescentes, caso você os tenha a reboque. Depois comemos mais.
Dois restaurantes e duas bebidas, é hora de dizer adeus a Oimachi. Mas não tenha medo, porque estamos a apenas seis minutos de viagem até nossa próxima parada, Kamata. Temos um novo conjunto de atrações para você aqui, e nossos guias vão onde a maioria dos guias japoneses temem levá-lo (provavelmente eles estão com medo de que você fique entediado, mas estamos confiantes de que não). Kamata tem uma ótima arquitetura da era da bolha (1980 até o início dos anos 1990) com um punhado de enfeitamentos bastante recentes e um clássico old skool shotengai ("rua comercial"). Também tem um bom grub, e temos um local com uma vibração descontraída e uma clientela amigável, todos alinhados. Esta é uma daquelas partes ameaçadas de Tóquio que é uma vila movimentada com uma identidade distinta. Enquanto outras partes sucumbem às cadeias de lojas e homogeneização, Kamata permanece forte, talvez não com tanta classe.

The place is of incredible beauty; facilities from the hall through the common areas, restaurants, beaches, to the cozy rooms. It is an ideal place for families, young couples, and those of us who are not so much. Cassandra, manager in charge during our stay, has an infectious energy and is a great professional, who animates and organizes a place that we imagine is complex to manage. Her assistant Luisa assists and supports her. At night the shows are real stagings of unimaginable quality: dances, music, circus actors, games of lights that have nothing to envy to other high places. We cannot fail to name Yurbel, choreographer and dancer full of magic and contagious joy who was in charge of dances, every night. Luis Jose and Kimberly, together with Yurbel, proudly leave the Venezuelan gentile aloft, and made us feel like a dream. Yeman was our guide for this pleasant evening of colourful dining in obscure little, standing room only, restaurants with good food, interesting clientel, sweet and dry Sake and fascinating history. Ask about the “love hotels” which were news to us! Highly recommended.

Andrew was fantastic and gave us an insight into the Japanese culture. He took us to small restaurants that were yummy and plenty of traditional bars. He even showed us how to purchase a train ticket home! I highly recommend this tour!

If you get the chance, ask for Mini as your guide. She was great! Very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the culture. We went to some off the beaten path spots and tried some very good food that I would have normally never tried. She even took time to help me set up a Suica card to my phone (no easy task as there were a lot of hoops to go through) and took me to a store afterwards to get flavored Kit Kats for souvenirs. Highly recommend!
