Highlight of our Costa Rica Trip (we did Ziplining, horseback riding, mangrove kayaking, etc) we only did the rafting even though this company specializes in canyoning. It’s the same river and the other company had 4x more groups that made it less personable and herd-like. Our guide was entertaining and informational. We had fresh pineapple and watermelon, water and bottled juices. A restroom / souvenir stop on the way there. We got to see toucan while there. They didn’t force us to stop at the souvenir store again on the way back. I do regret not getting something there as the prices were better. The river has really good rapids - enough heartpounding but they did it in a very safe way. Main gripe is that we didn’t get as many photos as the other family group we were with but they were free! The lunch at the end was delicious. Ironically our child tried all the beef with sauce casados around Costa Rica and this was his favorite! (Don Jorge Chocolate tour is nearby so we did both the same day.)
We had a wonderful time! We did the combination of rappelling and rafting. Everything was fun, but the best part were the people we met along the way. For rafting, Pablo was excellent and made sure we had a great time. Highly recommend.
The waterfall zipline and rappelling was so FUN. All ages 60-18. Rafting was also nice. First hour are level 3 rapids; second hour nice easy float - bring some beer along for second part if you want. Also the pictures they take are free!
Were spent 10 days in La Fortuna and did 4 excursions. Canyoning, Jurassic Hike, Zip Lining and rafting. My favorite was rafting with Pablo from Maquique! All of our other guides were amazing, but the rafting was just soooo much fun. Pablo is super funny and taught our small group very well how to handle the rapids. He cut up a pineapple and mangoes for us and Maquique even arranged a lunch for us at Terraza 86. Francisco was our kayak safety guide and he was great too! Just a perfect day with more amazing Costa Rican people. Please book with these guys and throw them a tip! It's hard work even though it's a lot of fun!
Had a fantastic time rafting with Pablo! Absolutely loved it, so much fun. Would highly highly recommend.
After an incredible canyoning experience, we also went for white water rafting with Maquique Adventures—and it was just as outstanding. It was my first time rafting, and with a category 3 river, I expected it to be quite intense—and it definitely was! But once again, the guides made all the difference. Their professionalism and clear instructions meant I felt completely safe throughout, even in the more exciting sections. The whole family had an amazing time—lots of adrenaline, but also plenty of fun and laughter. In fact, the only time we ended up in the water was at the very end… when we chose to jump in for a voluntary swim! The day was perfectly organized from start to finish. We even stopped for a lovely riverside break with fresh fruit, which was a great touch. And to top it all off, the experience ended with an excellent lunch—well deserved after all the action. We booked the combo with canyoning, and I can highly recommend it: two fantastic, completely different adventures in one day. If you’re in Costa Rica and looking for a mix of excitement, safety, and great organization—this is it.
Bang for the buck, the best activity in Arenal according to my family, and we did a few. Tour guides were nice and laid-back, the restaurant where we met and had a meal afterwards was nice and authentic, and the river was a lot of fun. The drive is also not too bad. The only caveat I have, is that it is kind of intense. From what I was told, part of the river serves as a quarry and has been excavated and deepened recently, turning some of the currents in legit level IV rapids. Probably ok for most kids, but my youngest (10) is a scaredy cat to begin with, and it was a bit too much for her. My wife and I, as well as above mentioned scaredy cat, also were tossed out of the boat. Not anyone's fault really. The boat in front of us went too slow, so we could not speed up which made it harder for the guide to navigate and we hit a rock and went flying. My kid floated nicely across the river as she is pretty light, my wife got picked up straight away, but I hit pretty much every boulder in that stretch of river on my way down. Eventually a guide in a kayak told me to swim sideways out of the current, which I did. I suffered some scrapes and bruises and was limping for the next few days, but was fine overall. So this is a real adventure, not a Disney ride, things can go wrong and you could get hurt. Part of the fun, I guess, but something to consider.
What an unforgettable experience! Our group of 4 did the rapelling/canyoning/rafting package. We arrived at the shuttle pickup spot and were met right away with friendly helpful staff. Once we got to the main location the staff set everyone up with what they needed as well as lockers to store your backpack or belongings(you don't need much on the excursion). Once the excursion began it was one awesome experience after another. The guides were fantastic and very helpful. They truly love what they do. This is a must do when in the La Fortuna area. A bonus: they take several quality photos along the way and let you download them for free!
Such a great experience! We did the combo rafting and canyoning tour with our 9 year old and while it made for a long day it was well worth it! Our canyoning guides were so friendly and professional and ensured a safe and enjoyable trip for all. This was the highlight of our time in La Fortuna l!
Great trip down the river with even a class IV rapid! The guides were all super friendly and our raft guide Antonio “bola ocho” was so experienced that even my nervous son felt safe and fell in love with white water rafting! My husband left his phone on the van and Pablo went back up to get it with a smile on his face. Great people and perfect experience!
