luis was very knowledgeable. he did a good job of finding accessible paths for my partner, who is in a wheelchair. the roads and curbs are not the best for wheelchair users. the drive was very pretty.
My sister and I booked through Viator when all the cruise excursions were sold out. We were a little nervous about getting back to the ship in time, as one hears occasionally horror stories about third party tours not making it back and the ship leaves them behind. Our guide Nialy (spelling?) assured us immediately that they had NEVER not gotten back to the ship on time. We did end our tour a bit early, but that was due to road construction from the port to Antigua, which caused some of the ships tours to get back delayed. We were met at the port, just steps from the ship by our guide and driver. Nialy spoke excellent English and narrated the whole two hour drive to the town. Our driver got us there and back on time and safely, despite terrible road conditions. Niely is a local and knew so many details about Guatemala that we never would have learned otherwise. Antigua is a lovely city, unique in that it was destroyed many years ago, but rebuilt keeping as much of the architecture and materials. We toured the ruins of the cathedral, a renovated convent, (trust me, it was amazing!) walked through the cobblestone streets and had a fantastic lunch of traditional Guatemalan food. All along the way, Niely was pointing out buildings, shops, even people as she lives in the area and was recognized by many. Antigua was a highlight of our cruise and I highly recommend one overlook the hassle of the drive there and visit this hidden gem. If this review gets back to Nialy, I just wanted to let her know that I found my little "bolsa" on the cruise ship and I didn't leave it in the car as I feared.
Luis, our guide did a great job showing us the history of Antigua, But the good news ends there. The trip from the pier to Antigua was a disaster. The vehicle supplied by the tour operator was deceptively advertised as having a capacity of eight persons and being wheelchair accessible, but it was anything but. Our friend who was recovering from hip surgery was unable to even enter the vehicle until Luis and the driver scrambled to find a plastic stool. Worse yet, the van was so undersized that the three 6 foot tall male passengers had to turn their knees sideways to fit into their seats for the entire nearly 2 hour drive, one with roads in disrepair riddled with potholes. That ride was so uncomfortable for our friend that we had no choice but to book an Uber in Antigua to return her to the pier. I requested a partial refund since I had $120 each for the three of us and another $125 for the Uber, but the tour operator declined payment without comment. Be sure to void this operator, Nelson Armando Palomo Toledo, and shop for one with a commodious modern van - even if you have to pay more.
Sorry to hear that but that why is important to answer the questions and information given days before. We are not wizards to assume your health conditions that why we ask. Is a problem of communications that you have not us. And the desicion taken to take a Taxi or Uber was very irresponsability belong to you because never call or was informed to manager change the bus or you are going to take a Uber. Is very risky. About the road is not a problem of the tour operator is government procedure to make the road better. Frustration makes to write this comments with out sense.
Nelson, the guide was fabulous. He certainly knew the history of Antigua. Highly recommend him. The driver was also good
Thank you Jerry we try to do the best.
Great time exploring Antigua and viewing the volcano. Ramiro and Christian were great handling the tour at a pace we could handle.
Great that you enjoy your day.
From the beginning Armando was amazing. As we traveled to Antigua we received incredible information about the area. We had a great informative tour of Antigua stopping for lunch at a great spot with authentic Guatemalan food. Highly recommend this experience.
Thank you for this review Raynaldo.
Our tour guide Hugo and driver were great! Hugo was very knowledgeable and attentive to our need when we were stuck in the bad traffic back to the cruise ship to ensure that we can get back in time.
Thank you for your review.
Hugo was fantastic! Highly recommend him for an in depth explanation of the history & culture of Guatemala, Mayan civilization, and the Spanish colonial period.
Thank you very much Mark for fantastic review. We always care for the good experiences.
Guide make stops along the way for us to take pics. He also send us up the cross hill n ask driver to wait at the bottom of the hill , so we only need to walk down, instead of up. That was thoughtful! He takes note of our requests n make effort to meet our request!! Cheerful guide. Thk u
