Antes da Segunda Guerra Mundial não havia Estação Central, mas havia quatro estações ao redor do centro. Em 1957, a estação central foi inaugurada em sua localização atual. Em 2004 foi iniciada a reforma total da estação central, em 2014 foi entregue o resultado final atual. A antiga estação não aguentava mais o fluxo de passageiros.
Em 2011, o município de Rotterdam organizou a primeira iniciativa da cidade, um instrumento administrativo para estimular a inovação administrativa e a participação cidadã. Os habitantes de Rotterdam foram chamados a apresentar projetos que trouxessem a animação da cidade e melhorassem a qualidade de vida na cidade. Um montante de 4 milhões foi separado da iniciativa da cidade para implementar o projeto.
Na Idade Média, um dos 10 portões da cidade que Rotterdam tinha aqui. Na década de 30, a cidade de Rotterdam cresceu rapidamente e o portão atrapalhava, pois queriam um fluxo melhor para o tráfego crescente. Decidiu-se mover o portão cerca de 100 metros (a demolição do portão encontrou muita resistência). Durante o bombardeio na Segunda Guerra Mundial, o portão foi severamente danificado, um ano após o bombardeio o portão foi demolido, porque não poderia mais ser concluído. Algumas obras ornamentais do antigo portão foram salvas e incorporadas às paredes dos edifícios da esquina da praça dos Paços do Concelho.
A prefeitura foi construída entre 1914 e 1920 (por Henri Evers) e é um dos poucos edifícios no centro de Rotterdam que sobreviveu ao bombardeio de 14 de maio de 1940.
Atualmente, o encontro é um dos hotspots em Rotterdam. Existem muitos cafés, restaurantes e lojas de roupas. Nos anos 90, o meent era uma rua onde se localizavam principalmente empregos temporários e agências de viagens, o memet era uma rua sem ambiente e com muita vaga. Robin von Weiler não é estranho a Rotterdam. Ele deve o apelido de Sr. Meent a tudo o que fez por esta rua e ainda faz.
O laurenskerk é o único remanescente do centro medieval de Rotterdam. O laurenskerk é um cruzamento entre uma igreja salão (todos os edifícios têm a mesma altura) e uma basílica cruciforme (aqui as torres laterais são mais baixas que a torre principal). A igreja foi construída entre 1449 e 1525.

Na década de 70 do século XX, os arquitectos pretendiam criar zonas residenciais hospitaleiras com a participação dos residentes e outros utentes em resposta ao modernismo de grande escala e cinzento da arquitectura da reconstrução após a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Piet Blom, estruturalista e adepto de Aldo van Eyck, assumiu que edifícios de grande escala deveriam ser construídos para o tamanho das pessoas, construindo-os a partir de elementos reconhecíveis de pequena escala. A ideia básica, de que o edifício é construído sobre colunas, para que o espaço sob os edifícios possa permanecer público, é inspirada em Le Corbusier

We had to cancel at the very last minute...we had double booked ourselves. The operator was very kind and offered a ride next time we're in town We didnt request a refund of course.

This was a wonderful tour. As we had already visited Rotterdam on another vacation, we wanted to see and hear about some different and unusual sights. Our guide surely made that happen. He told us many interesting stories and we were very pleased with this tour! P.S. He did take a picture of us and promised to text it to us but I have not received it yet. I forget his name but he is studying medicine at the University and we would love to have the picture

Izzy was a great tour guide. This was our first visit to Rotterdam. Izzy reached out to me after booking to see what we wanted to see on our tour. We were supposed to take this tour (and had paid), but 15 minutes before the tour, they called and wanted to delay it by 30 minutes due to a summer festival (we booked this months ago and the summer festival was something planned for months that they knew was occurring). Since it was afternoon, we could not delay, as we were on a cruise ship. We were willing to go late, but they said they could not guarantee we would be back by the time we needed to return to the ship. I asked if they could refund the money; they stated that we would have to check with customer service. They asked what we wanted to do; we said we would have to cancel if they could not guarantee we would be back on time. Now, they are saying we lied, that they did offer the original time (they did not - my husband heard the conversation), and the person I was talking with refuses to refund our money (over $150 - there was no other "customer service" person). I would not trust booking with them again, which is too bad since we will be back again in a few months.

However, we do need to correct several statements in your review which are not true.. The proposed 2:30 PM start was presented as an option, not as the only available pickup time. Once you explained that you needed to return to your cruise ship by approximately 3:00–3:15 PM, we immediately offered to keep the original 2:00 PM meeting time and shorten the tour so you could return within your preferred timeframe. We also explained that, as a responsible operator, we could never guarantee an exact return time due to circumstances outside anyone's control, such as traffic or unexpected congestion. After discussing the option together, you decided to cancel the tour. At no point did we refuse to operate it. Regarding the festival, this was precisely why we contacted you before the tour; to communicate the situation and work with you on the best solution. Our goal was to make the tour possible despite the circumstances. We're disappointed that our recollection of the conversation differs so significantly, but we stand by the facts and the efforts we made to accommodate your schedule. Very relaxed, fun & interesting covering a relatively small area of central Rotterdam. Someone younger than I am might have enjoyed doing it as a walking tour. Guide Izzy was fun and informative.
