Durante esta excursão, um motorista particular em um carro sedan irá levá-lo pelas principais fortalezas interessantes da Antiga Khorezm: Dumon Kala - Guldursun Kala - Angka Kala - Janbas Kala - Ayaz Kala - Lago Akchakul - Fortalezas Toprak Kala - Kizil Kala. A viagem pode começar em Khiva ou Urgench. A singularidade da viagem é a aventura, para perceber o estilo de vida do período AC. Toprak Kala é datada do período Kushan, por volta dos séculos II e III dC, e foi a residência real dos reis de Khorezm. O local, tendo servido inicialmente como santuário real, foi brevemente abandonado no início do século IV e depois de algumas restaurações, foi utilizado como cidadela administrativa da cidade.
Guldursun Kala é uma cidade fortificada. As paredes exteriores e torres datam do século XII dC. Muita cerâmica antiga e medieval e muitos itens e moedas de bronze foram encontrados no local durante escavações arqueológicas. As moedas indicam que o último período de ocupação está relacionado com o ano de 1220, durante o governo de Muhammad Khorezmshah e na época da invasão mongol de Khorezm.
Janbas Kala possui um dos sistemas de fortificação mais arcaicos que datam daquele período da Antiguidade. Todas as quatro paredes flanqueadoras estão em condições relativamente boas, atingindo em alguns pontos até 20 metros de altura. Janbas Kala difere da maioria das outras fortalezas por não ter torres nas paredes externas. Isto significava que o forte era potencialmente vulnerável a um ataque às secções inferiores das suas muralhas. Os arquitetos militares tentaram superar essa fraqueza do projeto incluindo algumas brechas fortemente inclinadas para que alguns arqueiros pudessem atirar ao longo da face das paredes.
Ayaz Kala é uma das fortalezas mais espetaculares da região. Na verdade, existem não uma, mas três fortalezas agrupadas em torno de uma colina proeminente no extremo leste da cordilheira Sultan-Uiz-dahg. A fortaleza fornecia defesa contra ataques nômades. Uma estrada de cascalho leva até um pequeno aglomerado de Yurts, um centro de descanso turístico com vista para um lago raso, mas pitoresco. Provavelmente foi fundada no período Afrighid, por volta dos séculos 7 a 8 dC… Há um lago – Lago Akchakul entre Toprak e Ayaz Kala. Existem também acampamentos Yurt e restaurantes próximos ao lago, onde você pode desfrutar de refeições e bebidas locais. No verão é possível nadar e tomar banho de areia no Lago Akchakul.
Kizil Kala foi originalmente construído no período da Antiguidade Tardia, séculos I a IV dC, mas foi abandonado e reconstruído nos séculos XII-XIII, na véspera das invasões mongóis. Há algum debate sobre como esta fortaleza pode ter sido usada nos tempos antigos, com alguns estudiosos propondo que era um quartel de guarnição para tropas, enquanto outros sugerem que foi um dos primeiros exemplos das muitas casas senhoriais fortificadas que eram típicas de Khorezm no século XIX. primeiros períodos medievais Depois de visitar todas as sete fortalezas, leva cerca de 90 minutos para voltar a Khiva. Duman Kala composto por três seções adjacentes – um recinto ocidental de formato quadrado com torres de canto; uma cidadela menor em formato quadrado; e um recinto norte irregular de quatro lados, cujos restos já não podem ser vistos. A cidadela ocidental é a secção mais bem preservada, especialmente ao longo do seu lado norte, mas apenas uma pequena secção do recinto oriental permanece.
Em AC, o Amudarya (Boi) fluía em duas direções, sendo a primeira o rio Akcha e a segunda o rio Suvyorgan. A razão pela qual esta parte do rio é chamada de Akcha foi a Fortaleza de Akchakhan, na margem esquerda do atual Akchakol, e ainda existe hoje. O nome do castelo leva o nome da antiga rainha de Khorezmshahs Akchahon. Depois que o rio mudou de curso, o atual Lago Akchakul foi formado e manteve seu nome. O lago tem uma bela paisagem ao redor, juntamente com uma casa de pesca e um restaurante.

A driver came to pick me up at my hotel in Khiva at 9 a.m. I was alone during the whole day of the tour His name is Sarvar and he was very kind, very smiling, and always in a good mood It was a real pleasure The car was comfortable with air conditioning The landscapes were interesting, we passed through cities, villages, fields, and large arid expanses He dropped me off at 7 fortresses Some more damaged and dilapidated than others Sometimes parts of the surrounding walls were rebuilt so that one could really get a sense of them. 2 required payment (20,000 sums = €1.40). The day before, the manager sent me the audio explanations for each of the fortresses in French. I was able to listen to them quietly to fully understand. Then around 4:30 p.m., we arrived at the yurt camp. I was assigned one with 3 beds, but I was alone inside. The yurts are very comfortable with electricity and even air conditioning. The experience of sleeping inside was super magical and comfortable. The evening meal was very good; we ate outside all together, but there is a dining room if it is cold. Breakfast was also very good. We then left the next day for Khiva around 9:15 a.m. I recommend it It was very good.

I had a great day with Olimjon, exploring 7 ancient fortresses in karakalpakstan. Olimjon was very helpful at answering our questions and providing context to the ruins. I also appreciated that he gave us some self exploring time so we could take our time appreciating the areas. I recommend this tour as a lovely excursion out of Khiva ancient city.

This was a wonder day. Our guide was incredible. He had so much knowledge of Uzbek history and of the fortresses. He was also a very safe driver. He took us to a local restaurant for lunch which was fantastic. The fortresses themselves were incredible to see and we were provided audio which gave us the history of the fortresses. Exciting time to visit fortresses together with family despite cold temperature outside. Camel riding is another fun time.
We booked a private tour to see all of the Kalas. The tour was good. We ended up with another group travelling in a separate car but with the same guide. This wasn't really what we booked and meant we didnt have the amount of time we wanted at each site. We booked a private tour for a reason as we like to have time at each site and be able to decide where we stay longer or shorter times. The car was a standard saloon car with AC that didnt quite work. It also meant that at the final kala we couldn't drive up to the site and walking path. We did the last Kala on our own, the guide stayed at the camp site. It would have been good to have more indepth historical information about the sites spanning the different periods of history. If you drive this could be an easy self drive day trip.

Khiva Fortress is fabulous, containing much to see and be in awe of! Beautiful monuments, informative museums, history everywhere! The fortress is well kept, clean and tidy. Worth a visit!

As a solo female traveler I felt completely safe with Sarvar. I was sent some audio files about the forts before going, but Sarvar is still learning English so the conversation was limited and he didn't know a great deal about the sites we visited, but he was easy to be with. You do have to walk alone to the sites and the last one is a bit of a trek. Lunch was a pleasant enough roadside restaurant but I was a bit sad there was no fried fish by a lake like other reviews have mentioned. I'm glad I went and it waa really nice to get away from the city, but if you're by yourself it's a very long day and I think a half day tour might be more enjoyable.
The owner, Olimjon, was really courteous and helpful. Not only did he personally accompany us to see the fortresses, but he also bought us train tickets, which in Uzbekistan are not easy to buy. Very competent, speaks excellent English, precise and punctual. Highly recommended

We had had contact with this agency through friends who had already traveled with them. There are no better reviews than those of our loved ones. And they were right! We spent a very nice day visiting all these beautiful sites! Organization at the top, we were often alone to visit, we were able to make the most of it!
