Patan Stepwell e Templo do Sol de Modhera de Ahmedabad

You sit in the car for a long time, but both the Sun Temple and the Stepwell in Patan were worth it! And you see a lot of land and people on the ride... Our driver Pandit does not speak English very well, but he was still trying to tell us the most important thing. He is very personable, a good driver and has responded to all our wishes.

I was solo and paid the upgrade for the guide and entry fees to the monuments. Both the guide and driver were friendly and competent and allowed the trip to go smoothly without any issue. Water was provided. Food was not, but we stopped off at a restaurant for lunch. In addition to the advertised sun temple and step well visits, we also visited a hand-looming textile work-house, and a Jain temple extra for free! So big bonus there! A warning that the drive is very long, and therefore constitutes the vast majority of the time spent during the day, with the visits to the monuments being very short by comparison. So if you don't like long car journeys, this won't be for you.

This was our second visit to India and this time we wanted add Gujarat also in our itinerary, We contacted our favorite operator this time again. In our entire Gujarat, we were super happy with 02 specific spots i.e, "Patan" and "Modhera". We first visited Patan to see Rann Ki Vav, It was simply incredible: the mere size of it amazed us. Other stepwells which I have seen in India were really nothing against it! 7 levels of stairs leading to a 30 m deep well. Where other stepwells mostly have ornately carved designs, this one has sculptures all over. No wonder it’s considered the finest and one of the largest examples of stepwell architecture in Gujarat. The next stop was the Sun Temple in Modhera which was around one hour away. This place was absolutely stunning! If you ever come to Gujarat, do visit it! 1000 years old it’s from the same time period with the same architectural style as Khajuraho, hence the temple itself was pretty similar to those. What made it so special was the tank in front of it with its many steps. I would also like to thank the operator “Discover Activities”, they delivered the tour as promised , driver was dot on time and brought a clean and comfortable Car along.

The tour was smooth. The driver was on time plus very helpful. The car is also really nice and has ac. So overall would definitely recomend the tour.

We drive to the Modhera Sun temple and Rani ki Vav at Patan from Ahmedabad, which was almost an entire day trip. The roads to Modhera and Patan are good except for small stretches of patchy construction work. Both these places are exquisite architectural marvels, depicting the Solanki style of architecture. The monuments are well preserved, and the surrounding areas are well maintained and clean including decent restroom facilities. Restaurants in the vicinity aren't great and this was definitely disappointing. We had lunch at a roadside dhaba, which surprisingly was quite nice. Would recommend leaving early from Ahmedabad if you want to cover both these places on the same day.

This was the cheapest tour to Modhera and the Rani Ki Vav stepwell from Ahmedabad that I could find for one person. The driver was friendly and spoke enough English to communicate the itinerary. He was on time and took me promptly to all the stops, giving me ample time to explore by myself. In addition to the two main attractions, the Jain temple was also neat. There were no shopping stops, which was nice.
